What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to reach students using simple terminology, utilizing individualized teaching plans and asking them leading questions when needed.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself briefly. I would ask them simple questions to assess their level of knowledge in the subject, and then proceed accordingly.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would give them problems to solve similar to the ones they are struggling with and guide them through the process.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Whenever possible I would try to provide examples from real-world settings to help them realize the importance of Mathematics.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try different approaches to explain the concept or practice the skill, such as by using visual demonstrations, etc.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would suggest breaking down each paragraph into smaller parts and looking for the clue words that carry the main message of the paragraph.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The most successful strategies are building trust with students, answering their questions with patience and using concise instructions as required.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

If students are struggling with the subject, I would try to figure out what is causing this struggle. Once I have an idea, I would start explaining the fundamental concepts and slowly build their confidence, which will boost their excitement in the subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask them to work out a problem related to the material and assess their progress.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Students gain confidence in the subject when they are comfortable with both the concepts being covered and working out the related problems. That is what I strive to achieve during the tutoring session.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would ask the student about the problems/materials he/she needs help with, his/her desired outcome from tutoring sessions and his/her learning style to evaluate the student's needs.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would lead an individualized tutoring session depending on the student's needs, since every student's level of knowledge, learning style and approach to the subject is different. Depending on their needs, I would give a series of examples, visual demonstrations, use simple words, etc.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I create and upload formula sheets, definitions/illustrations of concepts or practice exercises (if needed), which can easily be accessed during the tutoring session.
