My goal is to become a Naturopathic Medical Doctor and inspire others to live a healthier life. I love to teach and make things easier to understand. Teaching should be tailored to the individual's needs, goals and strengths. I believe that knowledge is a gift that we have and can share with others. What is your teaching philosophy?

No individuals are the same; therefore, the best teaching is tailored to that individual, their needs, and their strengths.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask them their goals and expectations of the session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them successful study strategies that work for that individual and that subject.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Taking a break when needed and revisiting the progress they have made so far.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try a different method to teach it or maybe even a different environment.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Reading paragraphs at a time and asking questions right after. Increasing the length of the paragraphs every time.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Using a whiteboard, practice questions, and flowcharts.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Make that subject more relatable to them. Help them visualize in the future what this knowledge could lead them to.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Practice questions. Having them try to teach it to me.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By asking them easy questions at first and then moving on to harder ones.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Ask them what they're struggling with and what methods they have tried.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Adapting is an essential part of teaching and learning. I do this by assessing the individual's progress and potential, changing things along the way to help them.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Scratch paper, visuals (this can include the Internet), models when needed, and a whiteboard.
