I am state certified elementary educator of thirteen plus years. I received my BA in Elementary Education in 1998 along with a certification in teaching English to speakers of other languages(TESOL). I am currently working towards writing children's books, relishing every moment of my journey, and planting a little organic garden.
Tutoring is something I enjoy wholeheartedly. It gives me an opportunity to bridge learning gaps that often occur in the classroom or extend learning outside the textbooks. Much of my teaching and tutoring experience involves students from grades K-6 in the areas of: test taking CCGPS(Common Core Georgia Performance Standards), math, reading/comprehension, phonics, grammar/language arts, and science. My goal as a tutor is to create relevant problem solving opportunities that both teacher and student solve and create. In short, I'm enthusiastic about making learning experiences practical and easy to understand.
Tutoring sessions will be catered to fit the individual needs of the student. Each student needs a learning experience with a slightly different recipe for achievement. My aim is to incorporate the strengths and interests of each student to create a platform for highly engaging opportunities for practice. What is your teaching philosophy?
It is my belief that teaching should be practical, relevant, and customized based on a student's individual needs. By building on these basic principles, I am able to use effective instructional strategies to address various learning styles.
My goal is to create real-world learning experiences that scaffold and stimulate thinking, with multiple opportunities for practice.
I hope to work closely with students to motivate them as they solve problems along their educational journey.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would first welcome the student to ease any anxieties, introduce myself, and complete a simple "getting to know you activity."
Secondly, procedures and expectations would be set and explained for sessions.
Finally, data might need to be collected via provided assessment or questionnaire to assess the student's needs.
