I enjoy teaching students using strength-based and data-proven strategies to enhance learning. Although learning styles vary with each student, I believe that identifying students' strengths should provide the foundation their educational pursuits. I enjoy establishing lasting rapport with students by exploring their strengths, talents, and interests. I also enjoy learning how a student responds to a particular style of instruction: visually, audibly and/or experientially. My interests include Hiking, Outdoor Photography, Street Art, and Hip-Hop culture. I went to college in Upstate New York, and attained degrees in Sociology and Public Administration from The State University of New York Colleges at Geneseo and Brockport. I enjoy tutoring students who may need assistance with writing (grammar, composition, editing, and annotation),digital media, public speaking, and curating content and research for college essays.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Identify the following: *Student’s interests and hobbies. *Explore how the student develops their talents in the aforementioned categories. *Share my own hobbies and interests, and how I further my skills.
What is your teaching philosophy?
A strength based approach to identify a student's interests both in and outside of the classroom. Establishing rapport is critical in developing what style of teaching (visual, kinetic, auditory) will best equip the student to learn.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Systems Thinking, Design Thinking, and Critical Thinking are all skills that can significantly enhance a student's motivation to learn.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By providing examples of very successful individuals who failed repeatedly before attaining status and/or success.
I encourage progress and hard work, not perfection.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Encourage the student to persist and explore the skill or concept from multiple angles, not just one.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I determine whether they respond to visual and auditory stimuli associated with whatever content they are studying.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Identifying someone they admire and exploring the reasons why. That often sets the stage for continued interest in a particular topic.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Utilize multimedia to gamify the subject. Turn an arduous lesson into a meaningful game.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Visual and verbal acknowledgement, application, and repetition of concepts.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By testing the student to use the subject in multiple environments, not just one.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking questions. By listening. By interpreting a students' body language and response to internal and external stimuli.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Meet them where they are academically, not where I or a bureaucracy thinks they should be.
