Certified Tutor

I graduated from The University of Phoenix in 2010. I obtained a Business Management Bachelors degree which helped me to be successful in the Banking Industry. In 2012 I got certified to teach English and Spanish through the Canadian Institute of English. I obtained a TESOL certificate which helps students to learn these languages as a second language. I utilize a total of 40 methods to help my students; methods like visual aids, video, songs, drawing, etc. I was a private Spanish teacher/tutor in Arizona for one year then I moved to the Country of Bolivia for one year to expand my teaching skills. There I was able to teach Spanish and English as a Second Language. Many foreigners were very interested in learning the Country's language which is Spanish. This gave me the opportunity to help them with the Spanish language and also the culture. The Bolivians have a lot of appreciation for the English language, being able to help them to learn was a great satisfaction because I was able to implement my knowledge and skills. It was a wonderful experience specially teaching Spanish to different individuals with different backgrounds.
I currently tutor Spanish. Even though I am also capable of tutoring the English language I decided to tutor Spanish because I love the Spanish language. My aspiration to teaching and tutoring Spanish has not only been influenced by the fact that Spanish is my primary language but also because I love my culture and love to share it with the individuals that are interested in learning it.
My teaching philosophy is to help the student to make progress. They need to feel satisfied knowing that they are not only understanding the language but they are able to express it. How do I that? I help the student to be immerse in the Spanish language during 90% of each class. Regardless the level of Spanish the student is learning, that student is constantly involved in with interactions of the language. I do this by implementing my teaching methods. For example if the student's comprehension of the language is very minimum then drawing and speaking Spanish at the same time the student can comprehend what I am trying to communicate. This way the student assimilates the meaning of my message. My main goal is to help the student's ability to communicate in the real world. This achievement does not only helps the student to continue to learn and grow but it helps me to continue to learn and grow as well. My greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that my students are learning, understanding and making comments like "Because the instructor was always enthusiastic about the class and had a genuine interest in helping me, it made the class more interesting for me." This helps me to see I have reached the student and reassures why I love teaching/tutoring.
My interests outside of teaching is to travel. Not only have I traveled extensively around the US., but I had the opportunity to visit other Countries as well. Among the Countries I have visited include: Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Monaco, France, Mexico, Peru and Bolivia. I am also involved in a volunteering worldwide work that helps individuals to become better individuals in society. For example to have a happier family, or to be better parents including single parents, help the young ones to become respectful individuals by making wise choices in their life and also help the children to be obedient to their parents and respectful to others. I love doing this because it plays an important role in my life and teaching experience. Over all, helping others is my goal. I do my best at what I do and I am always looking for areas of improvement to become a better individual each day.

What is your teaching philosophy?

All effective teaching is based on the instructor's enthusiasm in class. Always set high expectations of your students and be a model to them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. Ask them what they expect from you and what are their goals and motivations. Develop a plan for them and review it with the student.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Homework is very important, but guiding the student to take the initiative to experiment other methods like listening to dramas, learning songs, watching videos, or using humor can have a great effect on their learning a new language.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Mix up the lessons, and each lesson should be around 30 minutes each to keep focus on the class. Set goals, create new challenges, and always acknowledge their accomplishments.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try my best to make him understand the skill or concept by using skills that he learns easily. I would also review past material or use a fresh approach.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Using different strategies, like monitoring their comprehension by understanding what they understand and they do not understand. Also, using different methods, like asking the students questions, using videos on songs, etc.
