Certified Tutor
As a professor at Boston University, my favorite part of the job has been working with students one-on-one. I love taking the time to go deeply into a subject with a learner and help him or her discover what makes it fascinating. Working on writing is another aspect of educating that I love; to draw out ideas, to make them clearer and more forceful, is very rewarding to me, and I love reading drafts and seeing the development of an argument or an original insight.
I began working with students after I completed my BA at Georgetown University and went into a Master's program at NYU in Religious Studies. As a teaching assistant, I had the opportunity to talk to students about their papers and exams, and I discovered that I had a knack for getting people to relax and get into a subject, possibly because I love to tell corny jokes. While earning my PhD at Columbia University, I continued teaching, but I missed the more intimate setting of the small groups and office hours of NYU. I am excited to get back to working one-on-one as a tutor who helps with college essays, English grammar and composition, and edits essays of all kinds.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that every student can learn through utilizing his or her unique talents. My job is to bring those talents out and to get students excited about their work. I push them to excel, but I know that each individual has his or her own path to excellence.
