I attended the University of California in Berkeley and the University of Washington where I obtained a BS degree in Bacteriology and Microbiology. I continued my research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, specializing in Molecular Biology and Microchemistry. I have spent the better part of the past 20 years in both private Biotech companies and at the University of Washington, where I am a Research Scientist at the School of Nursing. I have spent much of my spare time teaching Middle and High School students the skills necessary to succeed in science and mathematics, particularly in grades 6th through 11. Most of my teaching methods and exercises are derived primarily from a student's current textbook, and by practice problems which I create from 'real world' situations. In addition, I have helped a number of students prepare for the SAT and ACT writing component by offering critical advice on how best to organize and defend a position on any given topic. My hobbies and interests are derived from the region where I currently live: the Northwest. I am a mountaineer, having climbed all the major peaks in Washington and Oregon; I enjoy collecting rocks and exploring deserts and canyons of the Southwest; I play and enjoy classical guitar, and I am constantly reading anything I can get my hands on that appears interesting and intellectually stimulating. My neurons need exercise too!
