I'm a semi-retired teacher and active children's acting teacher. I believe that any learning begins with a relationship; student to subject, student to teacher, subject to experience, etc. Why do you need the new information? If you need to pass a test to accomplish a goal further down the line, I have acquired test taking strategies that work and will happily share them. If you struggle with a subject that you're "not good" you may be surprised at how good you can be with the proper perspective. Human beings are learning machines. That's what we are all "good" at; But, not everybody learns the same way and I know lots of ways to teach and learn. If you work with me, we'll be successful.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that any learning begins with a relationship; student to subject, student to teacher, subject to experience, etc. The more positive that relationship, the more successful the result.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will ask the student questions about what they hope to accomplish, and listen to their responses/concerns. Hopefully, he/she will have completed the diagnostic exam, and we will discuss it. From there, it depends on the subject matter.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By sharing my process and resources, I can assist the student to find their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encouragement and specific praise are great motivators.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Luckily, there are many learning strategies and resources available to us. I would try different ones while encouraging the student.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
This is my area of expertise. First, I would try to diagnose the specific issue, and go on from there.
