What is your teaching philosophy?

The Socratic method, asking open-ended questions, is an excellent strategy to get a student to talk. When the tutor can speak less and encourage the tutee to speak more, the tutor can identify the student's level of understanding.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

A first session is very important in that it is the opportunity to start off the relationship as a partnership, an agreement to work together, and to help the student succeed. I use some of this time to get to know the student, to discuss expectations, and to plan.
