Certified Tutor

My tutoring experience is varied and experienced, having taught all grades K-8, and all subjects for many years. I especially enjoy tutoring grades 3-6 in reading, mathematics and science, and working with exceptional students who are gifted or special education. Science is my favorite because I love experimenting, building projects like soda bottle water rockets, and working for and with wildlife by cleaning up their habitats and raising trout from eggs for release as fry (juvenile fish). Math is exciting to tutor, especially using manipulatives and other forms of representation-we can do that visually online as we work together. Reading for fun is one of my hobbies, but I know how to inspire struggling readers and teach them techniques for making sense of what they're reading.
I would describe my tutoring style as rigorous, positive and focused on each individual student and what they need and want to learn to be a successful student in the subject we are working on. Short and long term goals are important to set, as well as learning study skills and work habits that will support their work in any subject area.
