Elisha: Rensselaer County tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of The State University of New York at Cortland. I received my B.A. of Liberal Arts in English Language Arts with a focus on Adolescent Education. Since graduating, I have worked in New York as a substitute teacher at several schools and also as a private tutor for several students. I recently moved to California, and I am now at a school in San Diego County, working with International students (ESL students). I am certified to teach English Language Arts in New York, for students in grades seven through twelve, but have extensive experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages. While I'm willing and able to work with all subjects, I am especially passionate about English and Literature, including Writing, Grammar, and Mechanics. I have experience tutoring students in all of these areas of English, and I believe that all are important in order for a student to improve their ELA skills. As a private tutor, I believe that each student is an individual and has their own way of learning; it is my responsibility to tailor my tutoring lessons to fit each student's differences. My goal is to help the student succeed in becoming a better reader, writer, listener, or speaker--in essence, to become a life-long learner. While not tutoring, I enjoy reading, gardening, and cooking.
