From a young age I always had a passion and talent for reading and writing. In high school I always excelled in my language arts and social science classes, and decided to pursue English and Russian language as my degrees in college.
During my college career I tutored at my campus's Writing Studio for 3 years, where we welcomed any fellow students with writing woes, reading problems, or whatever vexed them in regards to the written word. We always worked one-on-one with our students, giving at least an hour to every session scheduled. We helped students become better writers by not just focusing on the micro of grammar and mechanics, but also the macro of style, flow, and overall writing skills. We wanted to make sure their papers and essays were top notch, but also strove to instill the skills that would make them better writers each and every time they wrote something new.
Simultaneously, I also was an editor for my college's newspaper for four years, where I mastered the skills of copy editing and working one-on-one with my team of staff writers. I've always enjoyed giving individual focus to whomever I am working with, which is why I adore one-on-one tutoring.
As a lover of language, I also pursued Russian language in college as a major. Stemming from my love of Russian history, it was the greatest challenge I have ever undertaken. Pushing myself academically farther than I ever had before, I relished in the hours of study and reading. It made me love and appreciate not only a foreign language, but my own native language more than ever. I took the love with me when I studied abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia, during my junior year of college. Study abroad is still the best thing I ever did in my college career, and I wouldn't give up the experience for anything.
After college I worked for several book and magazine publishers in both the editorial and creative realms.
