The student and I worked on preparation for his research paper for his English course, which is due in a few weeks and is followed by an oral presentation of his research to the class. We spent the majority of the session going through materials, bringing me up to speed on the project, and brainstorming and outlining for the remaining sections of the paper, the next portion of which is due this coming Tuesday.

The student did a great job today and is learning a lot. I think this is partly because she did the homework I left for her. We started a new book "Sophie the Awesome." Because this is a third grade level book, there were words that she had trouble with, so I left them for her to practice. Also, we worked on reading language arts and math in her workbook. Next week we will continue with the workbooks and reading "Sophie the Awesome. " She should get a gold star for being very attentive and hard working for the entire two hour time period.

Today I brought flashcards for sight words. We're going to start and end each day reviewing the flashcards. The student read her Luka Plays Baseball book to me. Then she read her SRP book. There were quite a few errors so we choral read together and then she read it aloud by herself again. After that she worked on her math homework and she answered some comprehension questions for the books.

We went over radicals with different roots and solving expressions with radicals. The student struggled a little with solving expressions when they were in the exponent fraction form. Once I gave her a few tips, like making common bases, she was able to easily do the problems. We also did some review for her upcoming final and started making an equations study sheet.

The student and I reviewed physics homework that covered constant acceleration problems, the quantitative graphs of displacement/velocity and acceleration vs. time, finding total displacement from the area under a curve, finding the velocity or acceleration from the slope of a tangent line, and displacement/velocity vs. time graph. We also reviewed algebra homework that covered the distance formula and theorems related to parallel lines cut by a transverse.
