Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Rotterdam Junction, NY
The student is currently learning restaurant talk in his Spanish class. We reviewed how to express what you want, what you would like, tasting, and expressing likes and dislikes. We engaged in dialogue including foods, table settings, and useful phrases in a restaurant setting. The student also described locations of the items on the table. We reviewed in detail how to use several verbs such as servir, poner, ser and estar. The student was able to complete all of the activities, and has shown improvement. I want to see him improve his spelling, and I assigned a writing assignment for the next two days to prepare the student for this week's quiz. We will meet again next week.

Today we first reviewed some questions we went over last time, using adjectives. I could tell that the student had reviewed these questions during the week because she was answering much faster. I told her about a flashcard site that she could use to review vocabulary and pronunciation, and also to pick up new words. A strategy we went over today was to think about the question in English and consider which elements would be necessary before immediately answering in Swedish. She is going to look over the next chapter's dialogue in the book so that we can move forward with chapter two next time. I think her intuition and pronunciation in Swedish is really improving!

We covered an important portion of the student's textbook chapter 4, from composite functions to logarithms. We only covered theory, and at a fast pace. The student was able to follow almost everything, but she needs time to let all of this settle in.

Tutoring review by Sharyn in Rotterdam Junction, NY
During this session, the student wrote an essay for school about what sports can teach us. He began writing without outlining, so I had him stop and we did an outline together. He still seemed a little resistant to using it when he started his draft, instead writing stream of consciousness. I had him rewrite several parts using the outline as a guide until he finally worked off of it, and the rest of the essay improved greatly. He says the outlining helped him, but I think he could still use more practice in order to make this a habit for all essays.

Tutoring review by David in Rotterdam Junction, NY
I started teaching Student 1 how to solve systems of linear equations by graphing using x and y-intercepts. We went through a few problems together, and then he did some on his own. I continued with Student 2, going through his homework on the aforementioned subject. They both did very well with the problems and both had very good attitudes today.

Tutoring review by Samuel in Rotterdam Junction, NY
In this session we reviewed the student's last quiz, and she finished most of her homework for the day. The topic currently being covered is similar right triangles, section 9.1 in her book, and she seems to understand the concepts well. I'm trying to encourage her to work more independently, so that she will be better able to complete her tests.
