Talked about writing out work along with math problems and practiced putting story problems into math equations on paper before trying to solve them. Also looked at the vocab section of the test; tried out some analogies.

The student and I reviewed his homework and then began a short lesson on how to write a successful story. Afterwards, we worked on using prepositions correctly, conjunctions, and interjections. He does very well with prepositions and conjunctions.

We went over the six main trig functions and focused on how to construct graphs and transformations for each of them.  In addition, we worked through his most recent physics homework dealing with kg-to-Newton conversions and force vector addition.  The student is doing very well and grasping many difficult concepts.

The student and I reviewed coin value and discussed how to add money. We focused on the concept of creating equal money values with different numbers and types of coins. The student worked hard and was attentive for most of the session. The student's mother plans to review these concepts with her in the next week, before we meet again.

The student and I went through a geometry worksheet and also worked on ear training for his music theory class. He reported that his grades have improved.

For our first session, went over the use of percents and their applications, solving for values through proportions, and decimal shortcuts. Also discussed study habits in general and the idea that the student's teachers generally provide him with the information, but it's his own duty to re-organize and re-arrange it to be in a way that makes sense to him. The student stated that his current "best" classes are the ones he's not required to do much in (such as social studies), but his actual favorite class is science, where he wishes to do better. The recommendation from here on, then is to try and keep motivation up - science can be very cool, and understanding it only makes it seem cooler.
