Whats more important in live, academics or people skills, that was the main question Ive asked myself whilst studying for my GCSEs and A-Levels in Gordonstoun school. Well it turns out the right mix of both with strong academics you can make it far but without the relevant skills to share your knowledge these become fairly useless. I am Currently studying B.Sc. Biochemistry at the University of Surrey and have a past in helping students at my school, I am passionate about helping others in general with aiming towards a career in medicine or the pharma industry, but I am especially passionate about helping students, as I have been in exactly their situation not long ago. During and after my A-Levels Ive always been helping either individual students or groups, especially in chemistry and German, the ultimate experience for me was after my last chemistry exam, where the head of chemistry at Gordonstoun allowed me to teach my very own chemistry lesson, at first I was nervous but I pulled myself together and in the end it went really well with the feedback being really positive from my fellow students, as I delivered them with exactly the information that I was hoping for when I was in their shoes. However the subject I tutor here is German, this is because I am really passionate about teaching German especially to International students, as I can give them the extra insider view from a German, that was born in Germany and basically lived there his entire life before deciding to go to school in Scotland. This links really well with the sort of teacher I want to be, as someone who can make sure you know everything on the syllabus, but also go beyond with some extra information here and there and most importantly not just teach what the curriculum asks for but also more applied skills that will get you further not only in the subject, but also in life. Outside of that I am a passionate Skier, Squash player and love to be involved in leadership positions, with my journey so far including Assistant House captain, Prefect, Head boy and course representative, from tutoring I also want to continue developing my personal skills as well as delivering valuable lessons.
