Statistics Tutoring review by John in Portsmouth
The student provided me with some class notes, which helped me come in prepared with a better idea of what she was facing. We worked primarily on uses of the normal distribution, including how to correct a binomial distribution to approximate the normal. Next time, we will work on the Central Limit Theorem and the foundation of statistical inference.

Statistics Tutoring review by Holly in Portsmouth
Using PowerPoints and practice problems, we covered hypothesis testing, one-sample t-tests, two-sample t-tests, and confidence intervals. The student seemed confident with most of the material. But he needed clarification on certain questions. I recommended that he review the solutions to each problem and create a step-by-step plan for identifying the problem type and correct concepts to draw upon. By the end of the session, he had a better understanding of the concepts and the solutions to the practice problems.

Statistics Tutoring review by Megan in Portsmouth
Today, the student and I reviewed chapter 5 and began chapter 6. His mom reported that she had met with his teacher about his grade this past week, and the teacher is going to attempt to inform them mom when the tests and quizzes are going to be in the future so we know the schedule. We continued our session under the assumption that he will go to chapter 6 after they finish 5. He is pretty comfortable with the basics of each probability distribution and is able to find mean, variance, and standard deviation for each. We moved on to chapter 6. We worked through some problems, and he began to understand their purpose in calculating probabilities. We will continue to focus on chapter 6 in our next session, as well as review chapters 1, 2, and 3.

Today we worked on the student's second assignment looking at probability and conditional probability. We calculated the probability in Excel and interpreted the data, coming up with reasonable graphs to represent the data.

Statistics Tutoring review by Benedetto in Portsmouth
We covered z and t-testing for both one and two samples. We looked at how to construct the null-hypothesis, decide on a p-value, find a critical z or t value, and build a confidence interval around the statistic. The session was focused on the concepts rather than their applications. The student had a very positive attitude towards the intuitive understanding of them, and she understood everything. She should go over them one more time before we meet next week.

Statistics Tutoring review by Remington in Portsmouth
The student and I had our first session today. We went over regression analysis, including: t-values, least squares fit, and prediction intervals. I explained the difference between prediction and confidence intervals, and I also tried to give her a more intuitive understanding of what the regression analysis is doing. She seems to have a good idea of what she's doing, and she knows exactly where she's confused. She asks good questions that are able to pinpoint what concepts are confusing her. We'll meet again on Wednesday to continue.
