The student did excellent on his Improving Paragraphs practice, and he did well with his vocab words. During our lesson, we went over the sentence-completion portion of the reading section, and he again excelled. It seems he's catching on to how the SAT works and how to do well on it.

We started with a vocab quiz. We went over the student's corrected homework, including an in-depth look at his essay. We also went over progressive tenses in relation to perfect tenses. We spent the rest of the time going over rate problems.

The student and I spent the majority of our time on the math section. We discussed a few of the subjects she seemed to struggle with last week and reviewed common "traps" found in the math problems. After a few tries, it seemed she was picking up on how to identify these traps. We will go over a few more traps next week. We then did a practice writing section, and she did great on the sentence-correction section. Her confidence is growing every week with this section.

We covered reading and writing today. The student seemed a little confused by some of the passages, which was unusual for her. That said, she did well overall and has a good grasp on the critical reading sections. She does very well with writing too. Misplaced modifiers still trick her, though, so I explained a strategy to deal with them.

We reviewed the process of identifying errors in sentences and fixing those errors, and did reading comprehension homework. We performed SAT essay-writing drills that emphasized the thesis, topic sentences, and transition words and sentences.

Sunday, we went over the English 2 homework. Both students did well, and I think they're on solid footing as far as English is concerned. We then went over the strategy for the Reading section, both how to approach the passages and how to pick apart the questions. While they could stand to be a bit faster on the passages, I'm confident that will come with practice, especially since I was pushing them to use a new strategy for reading and annotating the passages.
