The student and I worked on the Writing section of the PSAT as well as his vocabulary words.  He will need to spend more time on this section.  I assigned him 5 more practice problems in Chapter 10 of the PSAT book for next week.

As the student had taken her SAT test, we switched back to ACT tutoring. We reviewed the ACT test, and I had her complete a timed math section from a practice test, as she said she has had trouble finishing this section in time on previous practice tests. She did fairly well at finishing it in time, and we then went over most of her incorrect answers. I asked her to take the rest of that practice test (timed) including the essay before our next session.

The student and I worked on the reading and science sections today. I had her do half a reading section with me and I corrected her mistakes right away and she noticed herself that most of them would not have been made if she had read more closely. I've assigned her the other few sections for Wednesday. Additionally, we went over some brainstorming for her Common App essay and she will have a rough draft to me by next Sunday.

Languages Tutoring review by Juliana in Westminster
I made flashcards for both students, covering their vocabulary. The kids enjoyed going through the flashcards. We came up with little games to nail down the vocab. They wrote down the words on paper as I dictated the words to them aloud. We also worked on reading, pronunciation, and comprehension. I spoke with their French teacher. She plans to send me a file with exercises to help the girls. She also suggested I bring songs (or other fun mediums) to help them with vowel sounds, and emphasized working on this in a non-academic manner to help build their confidence. I think this is a great idea. Will do.
