Languages Tutoring review by Rosa in Reading
Today we made emphasis in speaking skills, practicing all expressions and vocabulary seen since we first started. We also started focusing on the several uses and meanings of the verb TO BE in Spanish and had a written fill-in exercise. We started with prepositions of place (on, in, behind, in front of), and we ended the session with the lyrics of a song and listening to it, too.

Yesterday, the student and I worked on some study materials for an upcoming "quest" (quiz/test). We made flashcards of tu and usted positive and negative commands and then we went over vocabulary and a worksheet that covered concepts learned from a movie they watched in class.

Today we reviewed shopping vocabulary, mostly through translating sentences back and forth between English and Spanish. The student is starting to retain more and more information about sentence structure and grammar, as well as recalling a few more vocab words every time. As long as he continues drilling his vocabulary, that should not be a problem. I made sure to go over some direct translations, which should help with that. I also encourage him to listen to some spoken/ sung Spanish to get the cadence, grammar, and pronunciation in his ears better.

Today, the student and I worked on verb tense review and verbs with two meanings. He knows a lot of vocabulary, but needs to work a little more on his fluency. His attitude is excellent. He always has many questions prepared for class.

Today, we completed our third lesson. We began with a review of ser and estar, and we went over more examples to help distinguish the difference between both verbs. We introduced additional vocabulary and phrases as we practiced incorporating the verb gustar. We practiced using 'gustar' in affirmative and negative statements. We also went over additional advanced phrases that the student will be able to utilize in his interactions with the family babysitter. We also spent time going over how to tell time in Spanish and did several exercises where we practiced telling time and describing when an event takes place. Tomorrow, we will pick up on the last conversation exercise from today and practice asking what time a certain activity takes place.

The student had a test after the last time we met and was pleased to report that he got a 4.0 on it and that he needed to explain a lot to the other students in his group. (It was a group test). Tonight, he and I went over his math homework and got him caught up on all of his make-up assignments. He should be completely up to date in math now. He has a midterm next Wednesday on Chapter 4 and part of Chapter 5. Currently, our next session is scheduled for next Wednesday evening, so I plan to see if they would like to have a session before that, so we can review for the midterm.
