We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

IB Classical Languages SL Tutoring FAQ

There is nothing standard or moderate about the study of classical Latin or Greek. These ancient languages have a grammatical complexity that far surpasses most modern Western languages, and they require great expertise and much work to master. International Baccalaureate (IB) Classical Languages Standard Level (SL) coursework will ask you to spend dedicated time gaining the linguistic skills needed to understand and translate prose and poetry from major authors in these classical tongues, eventually testing your skills on the cumulative IB exam. Do not risk doing anything less than your best throughout your course and on test day. With an expert Greek or Latin tutor, you can get a thorough grammar and literature review to help you bolster your weakest areas of understanding.

In this class, I did individual instruction again. Firstly, I reviewed all the terms we learned from last few classes. Based on my experience observing kindergarten students' Chinese learning process, I found the intensive review can be truly important. We also studied to count the number of animals and make phrases. I then introduced more terms about height, amount, and quantity. Four seasons in Chinese was also introduced. I'm glad to see they made progress.

Today, we practiced having conversations to review the vocabulary and sentence structures that we have been working on. I showed the student how to use a Chinese-English dictionary and I was impressed at how quickly she picked it up! We continued working on the Spring Couplet that we started learning during the last session. Next week, we'll practice using an abacus.

The student was very creative on making new sentences at this class. The old sentence structure we learned was "this is...". During today's class, we learned how to say "my, your, his, and her". So the new sentence structure was "this is my ...; this is your ...; this is his/her...". He was able to fill an object in the sentence. For example: "this is my hair; this is your small cat and," etc. Besides these we also reviewed the greetings we learned from last class. "Good night" was the only one he remembered. After hearing my reminders, he got his memory back.

Today's session was productive. We started a new section today and the student seemed to be understanding the material very quickly. We went over vocabulary for routines and times and she was able to provide examples using certain grammar points. We will be reviewing during the next session.

The student and I reviewed the phrases we'd gone over in the previous session, like "hello," "goodbye," and, "Can you speak English?" I then taught her five new phrases: "too expensive," "How much money?," "slow down," "say again," and, "What/excuse me?" We also went over "want" and "I don't want," as well as some grammar/sentence structures.

Today is the last session with the student. First we reviewed the passages, the practice sentences, and the vocabulary for chapter 13. We also went into chapters 14-15, which were the last two chapters of book 5. I noted significant improvement from the first lesson as he struggled less and less with reading. He is now able to read entire passages without needing much of my assistance and I only needed to correct occasional minor errors with pronunciation. We finished the lesson with a final reading comprehension test that was an overall integration of chapters 1-15.
