English Tutoring review by Sarah in Westminster
Today the student and I finished working prepositions and different types of prepositional phrases. She does very well with these grammar worksheets once she sees examples. We also worked on different types of conjunctions, which are difficult because of the comma or punctuation placement.

The student and I continued our work on commas and clauses from our previous session. We started the session today with a review of relative clauses. We also went over adverb clauses and how these differ from relative (adjective) clauses. Last week I had asked the student to go through a short story we'd previously reviewed and identify all the relative clauses, indicating whether they were defining or non-defining and why. We worked on this task today, and as we went through the story, it seemed that the student was having an easier time finding the relative clauses and distinguishing them from adverb clauses. Some questions about noun clauses came up, but we decided to save this for another discussion. I left the student with material providing an overview of comma use. I will also send him some exercises. Next week, we will discuss the first chapter of his book.

English Tutoring review by Cedric in Westminster
She and I worked on a plan for learning her vocabulary. She decided that using note cards would be the best way for her to learn the words. We put the words in red ink on one side and the definitions on the other. Also, we did some work on her religion class. I taught her how to use the thesaurus to find synonyms.

The student and I continued to work on reading, math and writing. In math, the student and I worked in some math drills books on adding to and subtracting from the numbers 7, 8, 9, and 10 and counting backwards. In reading, the student continued to read about Little Duck in the reading book, finishing two stories and the accompanying questions.
