London AP Studio Art Tutoring FAQ
Preparing for an Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art exam is very different from most written exams. There are usually units to cover in the portfolio, like observational drawing, self-portraiture and structure, and a sketchbook component. The requirements for the exam are also broken into media groups. You will need to demonstrate your skills in dry media on paper, acrylic, using a 2-D medium to become 3-D, and many other mediums. Your portfolio is an important component to gaining entry into an art school. It is able to provide your potential school with a chance to assess your growth and development in various areas that you intend to delve into.
AP Studio Art tutoring can help you to identify and develop your concentrations, as well as your individual style through specialized attention. One-on-one AP Studio Art support can be surprisingly helpful, despite the creative nature of the course. Working with someone to flesh-out your ideas, discuss potential mediums, and bounce composition ideas off can help you develop your talent more quickly. The exam requires you to prepare a professional style portfolio and to propose a statement of intent for concentration. An AP Studio Art tutor can help you prepare your work for photographing and ensure that the portfolio is both professional and ideal for portraying your work to its best light. The last section of the exam is the statement of intent; a short written work listing and describing each work in your portfolio, and the relationship they have to your overall concentration. It is important for you to be capable of composing this succinctly and professionally.

Recent London AP Studio Art Tutoring Session Notes
The student's Calculus teacher gave him a set of derivation problems over the product, quotient, and chain rules and trigonometric derivatives to prepare for a test tomorrow. I helped him work through the set and found that his only area of difficulty was remembering the trig derivatives, so I took the rest of the hour to explain the relation between the trig derivatives and to have him practice them a few more times. By the time we finished, he seemed to have a better understanding.
Addressed basic chemistry topics such as half-life, oxidation, reduction, conjugate acids/bases, and radiation particles. After the session, I believe she has a great grasp of the concept and will be able to excel on her final exam.
We completed Spanish homework on the verb "ser." Completed math homework on converting decimals to fractions and percentages, went over old Bible quiz, study/test taking skills and took notes for history on the French-Indian war.
The student and I talked through a learning styles questionnaire. We reviewed several Math topics like exponents and order of operations and covered some Math vocabulary likely to be encountered on multiple choice tests. We did an exercise on antonyms and then the student did a short writing assignment. After reviewing that together, we discussed the writing exercise that he will do during the week for homework. Homework: Write a paragraph with first line "I like ___."
We covered a majority of the review sheet for the test and covered the notations for integrals, definite and indefinite integrals, etc. The student needs more practice with trigonometric integrals, integrals with substitution, and more complex integrals. Lots of practice will be needed before the next exam.
We reviewed topics for the student's midterm exam due Sunday March 24, 2013. We especially covered the material requiring the crystal ball spreadsheet and calculations. He is making progress with his midterm but the crystal ball was the most challenging piece of this.
