The student and I worked through bonding practice problems and her homework over nomenclature. She seems to struggle with polyatomic ions and naming systems, however, we will continue to practice with this and I have no doubt she will do well.

Prepped for Chem test by reviewing oxidation/reduction reactions, half reactions, total and net ionic reactions, predicting products, neutralization reactions. Reviewed Bio test, covering meiosis, 1N v 2N cells, what happens during gamete formation. Read and edited Chemistry paper.

The student has a test tomorrow in Chemistry, so we worked through her review guide on Lewis structures, bonding, shapes, and polarity. The material isn't terribly difficult, but can be strange if you aren't familiar with it. So I think the practice really helped. I also made an easy guide for determining shapes based on the number of atoms and lone pairs attached to the central atom, which she found pretty helpful. Since she's basically got the hang of structures and shapes now, she should be able to really well on the test. Her biggest challenge now will probably be articulating concepts. When I pushed her to try to explain it, she showed she actually does have a good understanding of the concepts. So it's just a matter of her relaxing enough during the test to put that into words.

The student is still working with introductory organic chemistry. We went through her old test, and she had the most trouble with reactions. We then did the first half of her weekly homework sheet together, and to make sure she understood the concepts I assigned her a few more problems from the book.

Today we spoke a little about the recent quiz the student had taken and how she felt about it. We then began the chapter on thermochemistry and I covered the essential concepts. We went through each section of the chapter and practiced with the problems in the book. She was gaining a stronger understanding of the material towards the end of the session. She has a midterm coming up in less than two weeks.

Last night, we met to discuss an especially difficult homework assignment regarding buffers and solubility. We worked through a few buffer problems then we moved on to solubility/Ksp. This topic was brand-new, but the student understood it intuitively and we managed to get a fair amount of work done. Overall, it was pleasant and productive!
