My name is Taylor and I am an alumna of the University of Miami. I graduated in 2015 with a B.B.A. in Legal Studies with a minor in Accounting. I graduated in 2019 from San Francisco State University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Presently, I am a doctoral student at Indiana University-Bloomington.I have extensive writing and editing experience with 100+ published articles, seven years of writing experience, and four years of editorial work.I have experience tutoring students from grades K-12 as well as college. I am passionate about helping students achieve their full potential while making the subject matters and assignments engaging and fun.

After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Dallas and a Master of Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, I went on to teach classes of 6-11th grade students at Trivium Preparatory Academy for 3 years in English, Writing, and Math. I also tutored students individually for all sections of the SAT and ACT during my time there, and I have continued to do so for the past year with Varsity Tutors. I love teaching English and Literature because I have a passion for storytelling, and I enjoy teaching Math and Grammar because of their rational nature and the enjoyment that comes from solving logic puzzles. When I am not teaching, I enjoy going to the movies, spending time with my five younger brothers and sisters, and volunteering within MENSA. From an early age, teaching and mentoring have been passions of mine, and I was able to hone those skills while studying English and writing at Gettysburg College. During summers while attending college, I was a teacher's assistant at Suffield Academy's summer program. After receiving my BA, I worked in digital marketing as a lead writer and content creator, helping small businesses expand online. The pandemic realigned my priorities, however, and I switched careers to teaching. For the past year, I have been teaching English online as I work to receive my English Teacher Certification. My teaching philosophy involves an emphasis on critical thinking and helping students find connections in literature, and I love to use modern art and culture to show how old ideas and people have had profound influences on our own lives.

I am currently a graduate student at the University of Dallas, working towards a Masters in Philosophy. I received my Bachelor of Arts in both Philosophy and a great books program called Integral, where we studied the history of thought in Mathematics, Science, Literature, Language, Logic, etc. While I can tutor in many fields, my favorite subjects are Math and English. On my free time, I like to read, play basketball, and hang out with friends.

I have a Master's of Science in Natural Resource Management and Environnental Interpretation from Colorado State University. An undergraduate in Communications (Speech, English and Theater) from West Chester University. I taught high school and began my own businesses after graduating college. I serve on non-profits and also teach through them. I traveled extensively, learning a great deal from teachers and elders of many cultures around the world. I always have had a burning desire to share what I have learned with others through coaching and teaching. This has allowed me to learn a great deal from my students as well. I have taught all age levels from pre-school to seniors and taught at both the high school and university levels. I pursued advanced degrees at Colorado State University, ran a large non-profit for the University and taught classes in many subjects in natural resources, creative writing, public speaking and organizational start ups and operations. I earned Masters of Science in Environmental Interpretation and Natural Resource Management from CSU and was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award for the University in experiential teaching. I was an advisor for approximately 50 students each year while with the University.I am also a life coach and have worked with people in that way as well.Twelve years ago I founded a non-profit with a group of people. Our goal was to teach about nature, sustainable living and the wisdom of past cultures. It was also a platform from which I could offer students help in creative writing, public speaking and personal growth courses. I am a public speaker at many conferences and in the classroom and I have had two books published. A couple of years ago I created the White Otter Academy to bring "Wisdom from the past magically stirred with knowledge from the present as a catalyst to transform your future."I coined the phrase "energetic alchemy" to define how I often teach. I take the 'iron' nuggets of knowledge I have acquired, add my own understandings, mix them together magically and .. often - gold emerges thanks to my teachers. I believe true growth occurs from the acquisition of both formal and informal education. With that said, I require a large dose of fun in any teaching or tutoring I do. I like to also acknowledge all the mistakes I have made along the way and admit what a wonderful teaching resource these are. Through some of the above venues I have brought teaching to groups. With Varsity Tutors I am able to work one on one with people - my favorite mode.

The combination of the two lead me to my field of studyconvergence journalism with an emphasis in humanitarian journalism.I earned my degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2014. Upon graduating, I've applied my skills to different jobs in varying industries. These roles include reporting, marketing, research, technology and teaching.My goal when working with students is to help them understand the "why" behind what they are learning. I want to help them see how the information they're learning can be applied to life outside of the classroom.Words are my passion. Therefore, it brings me joy to help students uncover their own potential and ability to clearly communicate.

I believe language arts is a tool that shapes and transforms the world we want to live in. My goal as a tutor is to share not only the meaning of words, but why they are meaningful. I teach my students that reading is thinking, it is a conversation that you add to and continue on and off the page. I teach students how to find and use their voice to communicate specifically and effectively. I teach students in the ways they learn best and that learning does not end in the classroom, it is for a lifetime.

I guess I didn't do too badly, because one went on to graduate from William & Mary and the other is a first responder, a helicopter pilot, and now a dad! Of course I am thrilled to get a chance to help teach the next generation...About me: I am an Army brat, so I had the opportunity to live in different countries (Africa and Europe) and learn different languages along the way. I have a degree in Animal Science, which means I learned a lot of science in college (and I can milk a cow)! I worked in research for a few years as an electron microscopist, and even did some work for Dr. Anthony Fauci!My particular strength is writing. I have published in research journals, written movie screenplays, and now am writing my first book. My regular students get plenty of chances to write, sing (my mom was a music teacher)--we've even been know to dance the Macarena on occasion. When I tutor younger folk, I try to find their interests and build our curriculum around things that they enjoy.
