Waterloo GMAT Integrated Reasoning Tutoring FAQ
What can be more important in today's business world than the ability to analyze and communicate complex information correctly and efficiently? Few skills are as necessary in an increasingly data-driven world, and any business school program will require you to digest such data rapidly and ably. For this reason, the GMAT exam includes the Integrated Reasoning section in order to provide your application evaluators with a metric for evaluating your ability to perform complex logical operations on practical data sets. If you cannot demonstrate these skills, there will be an understandably great concern that you might not be able to succeed in an MBA program. Don't let a poor score on this important section of the GMAT sully your excellent records and general application. Contact Varsity Tutors to discuss your GMAT Integrated Reasoning tutoring options.
It is perhaps tempting to believe that you need little preparation or practice for a test of reasoning. What do we do more than think about the world, particularly in the day-to-day activities of a business environment? Reasoning seems to be merely a common skill that we all innately have readily available. However, complex data is no simple matter for consideration, and while you may well be a master of basic logic, it is always helpful to have a full evaluation of your skills before taking a focused exam like the GMAT's Integrated Reasoning section. A personal tutor can evaluate your ability to interpret complex sets of data, helping you to ascertain your particular strengths and weaknesses. After doing so, your tutor can produce an action plan for your GMAT Integrated Reasoning tutoring sessions, focusing on just those areas in which you most need attention and help.
Your tutor has been down this road before, and has employed proven strategies to help maximize your chances of succeeding in the GMAT. They'll meet on a flexible schedule, so classes and work do not have to get in the way. Schedule lessons in person at home or at a more convenient location. Your GMAT Integrated Reasoning tutor may even set up a lesson face-to-face online if you can't squeeze out any hours to meet in person. Setting up tutoring with a busy life can be a challenge in and of itself, but flexible plans enable you to receive the help you need from a dedicated, qualified instructor who can work one-on-one to address your own unique concerns and challenges.
Preparation is essential, not just to learn and brush up on the material, but to become familiar with the test's format. Integrated Reasoning questions can be complex, and require you to analyze text, numbers, and graphics, evaluate data from different sources, and organize sets of information to assess the relationships between ideas. To solve complex problems, you'll have to combine and manipulate various types of information. When it comes to this exam section, the pressure is on.
Instead of wasting countless hours trying to work through a test prep course or text and focusing on unimportant topics that you already understand, find a personal tutor to help you best utilize your time. Your hours are precious, and only so many of them can be devoted to test preparation. Make the best of your time by finding a perfect tutor to help you evaluate and strengthen your data evaluation and reasoning skills. Given the importance of quantitative metrics, you must not fail to perform well on the GMAT if you want to present a well-rounded business school application. Don't risk your admission to the best possible business school program merely because of a poor GMAT score. Contact Varsity Tutors today about GMAT Integrated Reasoning tutoring to help you prepare for the rigors of this part of the exam!

We reviewed strategies for the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning portions of the test making flashcards for the words the student was not familiar with. We also reviewed how to express word problems through equations particularly those dealing with multiple parts and those referencing familiar equations such as distance = (rate)(time) and the area of a triangle = 1/2 (base) (height).
The student and I went over math and science in this session, as her science exam is coming up. She seems to be doing really well with the content area that will be covered, not only in getting correct answers, but knowing the reasons that other answers are incorrect. Her parents reported that she is getting homework done much quicker now, which is great to hear!
This was our first directed meeting, discussing classes of problems that are mostly "boilerplate" but important foundations. The student's math skills are not poor, so a number of the rudiments will merely need some strengthening. We covered and assigned Chapter 7 (Arithmetic), 8 (Algebra), and 11 (fractions / decimals) as well as 3.1-25 (sentence completion). If she has time, she will also do 4.1-25 (sentence equivalence).
The student and I met for another session of tutoring. In the session we went over several math problems. We first practiced advanced problems on plugging in. We then did more basic problems on fractions. Finally we worked on 3D figures questions. The student struggled a bit to understand the more advanced questions, but did very well on the straightforward ones.
The student and I worked through two official-length Verbal sections. Even though we were reading passages aloud and I was explaining answers, we were able to finish both sections in the proper test time. Furthermore, even though I provided very little assistance other than a few vocabulary definitions, her score was significantly higher than it used to be. We wrapped up with a little bit more Math review.
The student and I reviewed that test that she had practiced. We looked at both the quantitative and verbal reasoning parts of it. She is doing better on the reading comprehension and her math scores continue to vary based on the types of problems she has. Overall her scores have shown improvement.
