Hiya!I'm Sakib, a graduate student at Rice, studying computational & applied mathematics. I have been tutoring ever since high school in a variety of subjects. I have been a Teaching Assistant for Calculus I & II, and Organic Chemistry I & II. I have also taught SAT for Kaplan for years and privately taught SAT, SAT Math/Chemistry as well as AP subject exams.I love tutoring and being able to relay concepts to students. I enjoy enhancing their knowledge and giving them the skills needed to tackle upcoming tests and their courses.

I have my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and my Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), also known as English as a Second Language (ESL). I study education primarily focusing on English acquisition and my TESOL certification allows me to teach students K-12. I have extensive experience working with students prepping for Elementary and Intermediate school's State-Wide Tests based on the ELA, Math, and Science Common Core Curriculum. I have a strong linguistics background in syntax, phonetics, phonics, and etc. I am passionate about educating and finding methods of comprehension that best work for you!

Philosophy of TeachingMy philosophy of teaching for learning is that every child has a special gift or talent and it takes a determined and caring teacher to tap into those gifts and talents. Every child develops in a unique way physically, cognitively, socially, and as a teacher I must respect and embrace those differences. I feel that an instructional environment should be inviting without intimidation.Education is not only about words and facts, reading and writing, numbers, and equations, but it is a chance for students to discover, develop and be passionate about a life of learning. Through my teaching I am preparing my students for the rest of their lives. They are enhancing life, personal, and social skills that they will need use for everyday to come. I am there to be a facilitator for learning, pointing my students in the right directions. Personally, I know that lifelong learning is a vital process because I myself am learning each day just like they are.Each day, I am gaining knowledge from colleagues, parents, community and most importantly my students. I am a certified English and ESL teacher with over eight years teaching experience. I also double-majored in Spanish in college and have spent time traveling and living throughout Latin America. I recently earned my master's degree in English from Kutztown University. I am passionate about teaching and learning English, writing, and Spanish, and I love helping students be able to understand, and hopefully even enjoy, English or Spanish.I believe we can learn so much about life from reading literature, and I work hard to help my students understand difficult texts and be able to connect to them. As a tutor, I can work at your pace to help you talk about and understand the literature you are reading and help you master even the most difficult concepts.I also have a strong commitment to teaching writing. It has been through my own experience of writing paper after paper that I have learned how arduous, but also rewarding, the writing process can be. I have a lot of experience taking students through the different stages of the writing process as well, and as a tutor am able to help you find what you want to say about your topic, develop your ideas so that you feel confident about your writing, and create your argument with conviction. It is a long and challenging process, but I love taking students through it so that at the end, they feel satisfied with their work.Just like writing, I think learning another language is a really challenging process, and it takes lots of practice. It is so exciting, though, to be able to communicate with someone in another language. I try to find the method(s) that helps my students the most with learning and mastering the concepts in language acquisition. I love math and I love science. Math and science are two areas of study that I take pride in knowing. They are the study of the world around us and how it works to the most minute detail. That fascinates me. So much so that I achieved a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry. It is my goal to put this same kind of passion, drive and excitement in all those around me. I hope that I will one day nerd out on math and science with all my students!

I graduated from Southeastern College with a Bachelors degree in Middle School Math. Once I started teaching the public high school, I then received my certification in High school math as well. I have tutored and taught all levels of math from 7th grade through AP Calculus. I am also the mother of four, so I have helped tutor my own kids and their friends in elementary. When I am not doing math, I am taking pictures. I love photography and I was the yearbook adviser at my school for two years. Math can be challenging but also fun. I believe if a student is willing to work hard, they can always succeed!
