Hello everyone! I am a current third year medical student who is pursuing a medical career today thanks to a few very special mentors in my academic life. My goal as a tutor is to instill in my students an excitement for learning that encourages them to reach higher goals on their own. I believe math is the gateway subject that allows students to build confidence and tackle virtually every other subject. I also love learning and speaking new languages, which is a cultural window to a world of people that we were never privy to before. I would like to pass this love of languages on to my students as well.

I have been a tutor for 3 years now. I have a 4.0 GPA in college and am working towards a degree in Biology with the eventual goal of becoming a College Professor. I tutored for Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California last semester for Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, and Biology. I have tutored privately for these as well. I have taken two tutor mastering courses at Golden West and I absolutely feel I have a knack for it. I also have taught in other capacities previously to tutoring. I have been a teaching assistant for Microbiology, Anatomy, Russian Sports Massage, and Professional Development. I am currently an instructor for my men's organization at church as well as a Cub Scout den leader. This is my dead semester so I will be much more available to tutor than I was able to last semester. This semester/year I will be also tutoring for Human Physiology, Paper Writing, and Basic Math.So what can you expect from taking me on as a tutor? I will help you or your prospective tutoring student become an active learner. I will come up with creative and fun ways to make the learning experience enjoyable as well as comfortable. I will work hard to help, listen, and give the learning and studying skills that can and will be carried on to other subjects in you or your prospective tutoring student's life. I will basically try to tutor myself out of a job. That is the goal. I am a recent graduate of University of Texas at Houston, where I earned my M.D. Also I attended St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, OK where I received a B.S. in Biology with a Pre-Medicine emphasis. I tutor Math and Science of many varieties with a special love for Biology and Chemistry. I have five years of experience tutoring Math and Science during my time working on my undergraduate studies and while I was an EMT.My love for math and science propelled me into the healthcare field, which I felt was a calling for me. I loved learning how the body worked and how to fix it. This fascination forced me to delve deeply into Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Microbiology as all living things are complex and all these subjects were necessary for me to achieve the basic understanding of medicine I wanted.My teaching philosophy is that the mind is complex and that no two are the same. Therefore, I recognize that being able to relate an academic subject to real life interest, provide multiple modalities of learning (verbal, visual, and kinesthetic), and even just providing alternative verbiage/vocabulary when describing a subject a subject can be the difference between a subject sticking in a student's head or the concept flying right past them and landing on the wall at the back of the room.Outside of academia, I continue to be a Boy Scout at heart, with a love for the outdoors and all things nature. I am also an active member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms where I am a rapier fencer (sword fighting). I am also a fan of soccer especially the Houston Dynamo and US Men's National Team.

Being an English TA while studying Biology might seem somewhat odd to people, but besides being interested in the sciences I have a passion for writing. I've written three novels of carious genres (thriller, murder mystery, and horror) and hope to get them published someday.My approach to tutoring is to help ensure that the student has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of what they're learning. While it may be possible to get through a class by memorizing seemingly disjointed facts, students will have a much easier time learning and remembering information if they understand why it's important in the first place, and how it relates to other things they've learned in the class or things they might know from their day to day lives.

I enjoy finding ways to tutor that relate to the student so dry topics like the order of operations can be easier to remember. I believe that math and science are key in getting further in education, which in itself is invaluable. Due to my background in math, I am very comfortable tutoring pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, and industrial engineering as needed. In addition, I am strongly suited to tutor in anatomy & physiology and I really enjoy this subject.
