Hi! I am a junior at the University of Texas in Austin studying Health and Society, Spanish, and Disability Studies. I was in a Spanish immersion program most of my life and am basically fluent. I am currently a research assistant in a program studying the developmental outcomes of children and families who have a child who translates between English and Spanish on behalf of their parents in the Austin area.In my freshman year of college, I was a student at Tulane University, where I participated in a program where we tutored local New Orleans middle and high school students in any school subjects they needed, essay writing, and ACT and PSAT prep. I am passionate about figuring out accessible and understandable ways to present information for every student. I want them to be confident in their ability to learn just as much as I want to teach them the information.I am available for ACT, PSAT, Spanish, tutoring, as well as middle school, and some high school math.

When I was a kid I hated language arts class! I couldn't understand why English was mandatory since we all spoke it! But when I got to middle school I found books that sparked my interest and took me on a journey. From that day forward it has been hard to remove me from the library. Then when I figured out a method to understand writing, I never failed another language arts class. It is my hope to share my knowledge and methods with everyone I come into contact with so they too, can see that nothing is as hard as it seems with the right tools. I am also a certified teacher in the state of Florida, and I can assist with passing parts of the general knowledge exam as well.

I am a graduate of Dallas Baptist University and received my Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies, during which I also took Biblical Studies and Psychology courses outside of my degree requirements. Since graduation, I have worked with online international tutoring programs for students in Hong Kong (through which I received my TEFL certifications) and worked alongside my husband as a sub at the K-12 private Christian academy he has served with for the last 3 years. My favorite subjects to work with students on are Theology and English/writing. Personally, I also enjoy helping students prepare for exams and learn effective study skills. My own academic journey was difficult due to learning differences, so I know these are skills that are vitally important for many students! In my spare time, I love to serve alongside my church family in our community, watch good movies with my husband, and take our puppy on walks in our city.

I tutor SAT prep, Language Arts, and Spanish.For three semesters I have worked as a consultant in my university's writing center. I love helping students in all aspects of the writing process, from brainstorming to the final editing stages. My goal is to teach students to become confident, self-sufficient writers.I am available to tutor Spanish courses as well including high school Spanish I, II, III, and IV, as well as college level beginner and intermediate Spanish courses. I was a straight A student in high school as well, and took all advanced and AP classes. When I was at one of my high schools in Louisiana, the classes were all done online. I managed to finish all of the requirements for high school when I was only 14! Unfortunately, many of my classmates struggled without the presence of a teacher, and I began tutoring them. I tutored students from many different backgrounds in all subjects of high school for over 6 months, and greatly enjoyed it and would like to tutor again.Now, having just graduated with my undergraduate degree, I am looking to begin tutoring as a true mentor, and not as a classmate. I have always excelled in and enjoyed the classroom setting. I scored a 34 composite on my ACT and 2120 on my SAT, and would be happy to help with the challenges of preparing for standardized tests, as well as regular subjects for school. I earned a BA in Philosophy and Italian Literature form the University of Pittsburgh and an MS in Logic and Computation from Carnegie Mellon University. I have taught and served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate level courses in philosophy at both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pennsylvania. This gives me first-hand knowledge of what level of academic excellence is expected at some of the best universities in the country. All of these courses, with the exception of logic, required students to write essays. A substantial portion of my time was dedicated to helping students improve their academic writing. This experience taught me the most common problems students encounter in academic writing including lack of clarity, redundancy, the inability to structure an argument, and the most common spelling and grammar mistakes. It also forced me to develop ways of getting students to identify and correct these errors. This involved spending a lot of individual time with students and helping them through the revision process. The most important aspect of this was getting them to see that writing is a process. This understanding generally made them more patient and open to feedback.Philosophy and logic are both exceptionally abstract subjects. Teaching them to undergraduates requires patience and the ability to explain things as simply as possible. It is also important to recognize the signs of confusion. Students do not always tell you when they are confused (and sometimes they themselves do not think they are confused), and so it is vital to maintain interaction with students and to continually check for understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of teaching, and I always conveyed my enthusiasm for the subject and the learning process. This is vital to maintain students' motivation and to keep their attention.
