The student finished the no calculator section of her SAT Math practice test. She did very well, only having a few questions, which we will review next meeting. After we review, we will simulate the real test to work on timing. She will skip questions she is unsure of, and we will come back to them in the last minutes of the class.

For our last session, we worked on a practice HSPT exam that is a shortened version of the real exam. The student had completed this our first session, and I wanted to track his growth from the first until now. Percentage-wise, in his score, he went up in the first four sections. He completed verbal and reading with both 83% accuracy, quantitative with 73%, and mathematics with 64%. Going forward, I suggest continuing to review math concepts (especially fractions, graphs, and percentages), working on language (grammar, usage, etc.), and continuing to build vocabulary. He can also continue to build vocabulary by visiting a vocab site and using their HSPT vocabulary lists and games.

We covered introductions as well as his interests. The student is struggling putting his thoughts into words, but I think he is very articulate for an eight-year-old. He had a great attitude. We covered the concept of efficiency and pausing before answering a question. I asked him to think about what he would do if he was the first person on Mars. We will turn this into an essay question later.
