The student and I worked on her calculus homework and went ahead a bit in the reading. She was very proficient in taking the derivative of simple functions, but when it came to more complex ones she had a difficult time comprehending the rules. This is expected though and I expect her progress to continue as the class progresses.

Filled out the student's workbook to solidify his grip on solving equations and inverse functions. The student got a B on his last chemistry test. In the future we are going to be more focused on underlying concepts.

Today the student and I ran through three test sections in continued preparation for the student's May SAT. He once again displayed fantastic ability with the math section. Continued strategies were elucidated and employed by way of tackling problem sections. Homework was assigned for him to complete this which we will go over next Saturday.

Completed a timed section and discussed timing-related issues. Suggested she slow down to avoid correctable errors and use calculator to avoid arithmetic mistakes.

The student said that reading gives her the most trouble, so we worked on a reading section. We discovered that it is really only the natural science passage that causes problems, so we devised a new approach for that section. She is now going to start by skimming the passage and underlining key terms. She will then go to the questions without reading the passage as a whole. She will begin with questions that provide a line number and go on from there. We tested out this method, and her score improved. She will continue to practice this strategy this week. If she has time, she will take the reading section of the university review online test. If not, we will work on this next time. I will need to bring new materials for next week's session.

Today the student needed some instruction to prep for a quiz tomorrow. He had covered a lot since the last time I saw him! We reviewed factoring, and then I gave him some new instruction on completing the square and quadratic equations. By 5 he was able to do all problem types, but he agreed that more practice was necessary to do well on the quiz.
