I am a graduate of David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lipscomb, and a Masters of Arts in Library Media from UWA. I taught several middle school and secondary school English in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for twenty-five years before becoming a Library Media Specialist. I worked for five years in the Library Media Center for a local middle school before my retirement.I developed a desire for teaching when I was in the 4th grade. My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Barnett, used many techniques years before they became popular. She used Study Buddies and small groups in order to ensure that her students learned the material they were assigned.In 2006, I was selected as a Walmart Teacher of the Year. I was presented a $1,000.00 check to purchase supplies for my students. Additionally, I received a $50.00 gift card to be used for my personal use.I enjoy spending time with my family, especially on Sundays when we all gather at our house for Sunday dinner. I also enjoy quilting, sewing, and reading.

I graduated from the University of West Alabama with a degree in English and a minor in journalism. I received my Master of Arts in English from the University of Alabama with an emphasis in rhetoric and composition. While I have a wide variety of academic interests, my first love has always been teaching writing. Specifically, I relish helping people generate, organize, develop, and present their ideas so that they can be proud of what they share with others. Some students are afraid to commit to their ideas in writing because they fear being judged or misunderstood. My priority as a teacher has always been to do everything I can to help each student become a more confident writer and communicator. Similarly, I strive to remind students that cultivating and maintaining solid critical thinking, writing, and communication skills will give them significant advantages in achieving their educational, personal, and professional goals. The classroom is where I learned to develop, utilize, and appreciate my inherent abilities to write and communicate effectively. Because I have limited mobility, I rarely got to go outside and play with other children my age. As a result, reading became my most significant outlet and means of entertainment. I have always been a voracious reader and an avid writer-- both in academic and personal pursuits. I became a teacher because my undergraduate advanced composition professor told me unequivocally that I should teach writing. This conversation was a turning point because someone else believed that I could help others learn to write. That day, this same professor (who served as my division chairperson) walked me down to the writing lab and introduced me as a new writing tutor to the center director. From the time that I tutored my first client in developmental writing, I knew that I needed to teach, and I've never really looked back. What being a tutor in college taught me is that one person can really make a definitive, positive difference to a student who is struggling academically. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time on the water with my family as often as possible. I love watching college basketball and football, and I'll take any chance that I get to try a new restaurant on date nights with my husband of 28 years.

I have been tutoring/teaching math for 5 years. I earned my B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education at Samford University in 2022 and my M.Ed. Mathematics at the University of West Alabama in 2024. I have tutored students in Pre-algebra, Algebra I & II, Pre-calculus, Calculus I & II, Differential Equations, and Statistics. As a teacher, I have taught Algebra I, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and ACT/SAT Prep. I enjoy helping students grow in their understanding of mathematics and helping them reach their future goals through education.

In addition, I am a trained mentor through Mentor Collective, a program that connects students in various academic programs with mentors at universities across the nation. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Alabama A&M University. I received a Master's of Education Degree in Mathematics from the University of West Alabama. My journey to and through education is a long one because I am a life learner. I received my B.S. in Business from Judson College in Marion, AL. A few years later I went to the University of Alabama and received my Class B Teaching Certification in Special Education Collaboration K-12 which encompasses all ability levels, including Gifted. After that, I taught special education inclusion and small-group classes at a middle school in a metro Atlanta, GA suburb for 4 years (6-8 grades and all subjects). There, I was the lead special education teacher for a staff of 20 and passed the Praxis for Teaching Reading for middle school. For the next three years, I held the same kind of teaching position at a junior high school in Bibb County, AL. I continued my teaching career at a rural high school just outside of Selma, AL. My position again consisted of inclusion teaching and small group classes in all subjects and grades 9-12. After 5 years in that role, I made a change to general education in the same high school and did so by passing the Praxis in the area of English/Language Arts for grades 6-12. While teaching 10th-grade English and providing special education accommodations to my students, I served as the school's 504 coordinator. I earned my Master's in English Education for grades 6-12 from the University of West Alabama. Before the 5 years I taught 10th grade English passed, I began work on my Education Specialist degree in Teacher Leader at the University of West Alabama. Throughout all of those years of teaching middle school and high school, I tutored students at school in many subjects, especially reading, writing, math, and ACT prep during and outside of school hours. Next, I received a dream opportunity to join the faculty at an Alabama State Community College teaching Freshman English Composition I & II and American Literature I & II as I completed my Master's in English coursework from the University of West Alabama. During my first year in that position, I completed the coursework to earn my Ed.S. degree. I just completed my 7th year of teaching college English to start a brand new journey teaching elementary special education grades 1st, 3rd, & 5th. It has been amazing! I have over 25 years of experience in education. I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, before getting my teachers certification. I received my Masters of Education in School Leadership from Cambridge College and a Masters of Education in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama. I have worked in elementary, middle and high school as a teacher and school counselor. As an elementary school teacher, I specialized in the teaching of reading and language arts. My love and excitement for reading followed me into the classroom which allowed me to have great success with struggling readers. As a school counselor, I used bibliotherapy to help students see themselves in characters and learn strategies to overcome various obstacles. When I ran out of books with the topics needed, I wrote my own coping skills book for kids. I help students identifying their learning styles, study skills, and much more while understanding and addressing underlying social and emotional barriers to success.

I am a graduate of the University of West Alabama and have been teaching for 34 years. I hold my Master's Degree in Math and Science composite and am certified to teach any math or science course in grades 6-12. I have experience teaching Pre-Calculus and Calculus 1 as well. While I have experience in many subjects, I am most passionate about algebra and geometry and the sciences. I believe that education is the key to opportunities and that all students can learn math and science if given experiences that allow them to make meaning of the information and connect the learning to their lives. My passion for working with students began over 30 years ago. I have taught a variety of subjects in a public high school and also served as an academic counselor and as a career tech counselor. I have taught more than 1000 online ESL classes to students from age 4 to 20.
