I taught in public schools for three years (2014-2017). My first year I taught Algebra I at Belmont High School in Dayton, OH and I taught General Science for two years at South Dearborn Middle School in Aurora, IN. I also substituted off and on in Hamilton county, OH for nearly ten years, including a long-term assignment where I taught Algebra II and AP Calculus.I have a Bachelors degree from Northern Kentucky University where I majored in mathematics (with an emphasis on Probability & Statistics) and minored in the biological sciences. Ive provided statistical support for a professor of biological sciences and worked in traditional tutoring centers and 1:1 in-home and library tutoring providing support to students in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus and calculus. I'm certified in mathematics and science in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.I specialize in tutoring math topics from pre-algebra through calculus and statistics. I'm patient and easy-going, and I explain mathematical concepts well. I provide homework help and explain theorems and examples in a way that is easy to understand for the student. One of the greatest rewards in this endeavor is to see a concept "click" with the student, and hearing the student say, "Oh, I get it now!" In each lesson the student will practice several problems at his or her own pace as I guide him or her along and provide simple explanations in the event the student gets stuck on a problem.

I want to help students learn about the internet and explore the vast possibilities of the internet. As the head of my class, I not only excelled academically but also supported my peers in learning complex topics in computer networking. This role led me to become the head of my school's BPA Network Design team, where we achieved first place at the BPA regionals and state level in Ohio, and third place nationally. I studied computer networking and cybersecurity at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center, where I earned 25 certifications, including my CCNA and two CCST certifications one in computer networking and one in cybersecurity. I am currently pursuing a degree in cybersecurity.I focus on tutoring computer networking and cybersecurity, particularly preparing students for CCNA and other Cisco certifications. I enjoy teaching computer networking because it combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications. My teaching philosophy is to guide students to find their own answers while encouraging critical thinking, often through gamification to make learning fun.Outside of academics, I compete in cross country and track for Northern Kentucky University and enjoy playing hockey and video games. My goal is to inspire a love for technology in my students, equipping them with essential skills for a digital world and the workforce.

My goal is to show students how to be successful by combining test-taking strategies as well as content review to pass high-stakes exams, such as the NCLEX certification exam. Currently, I have a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN certification exam (for 2024 and 2025) and am included in the "BEST TUTORS of 2025". Reading and writing have interested me for as long as I can remember. My parents took us to the library every week to find new books and for story hour. I began writing my own creative fiction stories in 6th grade. My love of discussing and writing about literature and other reading made majoring in English Education a perfect fit. At Bowling Green State University, I gained experience with academic essays by tutoring students through the Writing Center. I worked primarily with first-year students on argumentative essays, but sometimes had the opportunity to work with graduate students on research papers and with English as a Second Language students needing help applying grammar rules.Since 2009, I've been teaching middle and high school Language Arts courses ranging from 6th grade reading through Senior Composition. I help my students to recognize the strengths they already have and use those strengths to improve other areas.I am working toward a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition at Northern Kentucky University. This will position me to teach first-year composition courses at community and 2-year colleges. It has also provided me with more strategies for teaching writing.

Teaching is my fourth career. I've learned my way through the first three by watching others and choosing how to adapt and apply their techniques to the specific purpose of my projects. In high school I was a STEM student before the term existed, but I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College with a major in Drama and a double minor in English and Art.Starting out on my career path in New York City, I took and taught theater crafts and began to develop prototype design skills while working in live theater, opera, dance, and television/video, and after contributing to Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and The Muppet Movie, relocated to London through the Jim Henson companies to work on feature films such as Dark Crystal, Dreamchild, Labyrinth, and Little Shop of Horrors. After a time, being at the intersection of a script and its visualization excited me the most and led me to emulate my colleagues who were into concept creation by beginning to research and write story treatments for Labyrinth.Returning to the States to raise a family, I applied what I'd learned about production to the corporate world. My experience and imagination yoked to a client's vision and purpose allowed me to take on a variety of roles: creative director, writer, producer, graphic designer, and occasional project management. As in the past, I often worked in the trenches, this time learning the software that supported and enhanced our efforts. But overall, my focus was to communicate, through language and visual representation, how a project could be realized. I knew that the plan might grow and change as it progressed, so had to be mindful that collaboration, communication, and flexibility were key to adapting to change as we moved toward the client's goal.Although I returned to college and earned a Master's in English and a Certificate in Creative Writing, my progress in the real world still relies on both words and pictures. The more we engage our senses, the deeper will be our ability to convey our intentions to those with whom we live, work, and play. Therefore, I wish to find out how you learn best so that together we may craft a plan for your progress, whatever your goal. Please share your expectations and concerns. Your goal may seem hazy at the start, but as learning is about observing, trying, and sometimes failing, your vision will come into focus. We can course correct as we move forward together to ensure a resolution, even if the destination changes somewhat. That's life, isn't it?

I am a teacher, certified in The Social Sciences and in Gifted Education, having received my training from Northern Kentucky University. I hold a BA in Social Studies, an MA in Gifted Education, and an additional 30 graduate hours in Special Education. Beyond that, however, I have been a 'teacher' my whole life. Every position I have ever held, from a 15 year-old stock boy, to a professional air traffic controller, to a corporate executive, I have wound up teaching/instructing/training. It is not just what I do, it is who and what I have always been. The most effective way to teach anything, in my opinion, is one-on-one face to face. A student's needs can be more easily determined and then satisfied, and response to learning stimuli is immediate and clear. Tutoring allows me to take a lifetime of interests and knowledge and use them, in a manner suitable for each student, to create learning. While able to tutor in many of the social sciences, I enjoy teaching in the history areas, especially American and Modern European. My major enjoyment, however, comes from the teaching of writing, in all areas, from essays to fiction in all forms. Because of the lack of expressive abilities I encountered when I began teaching, I have stressed it in all of my teaching situations. I have tutored in after-school programs, privately while in college, and to troubled students in local children's homes. I work in a personable, oral, style that connects ideas and thoughts to the standard details of a subject. Along with writing, I enjoy the outdoors. I camp, fish, and play golf as I can find time.

I received my Master's from Northern Kentucky University to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. I taught middle school English and Science as well as Speech and Drama. Teaching was my second career. I spent most of my early adulthood in management as a Learning and Development or Training Manager. I have my SHRM- SCP (Senior Certified Professional), my Six Sigma Green Belt, a Change Management for HR, and I am currently working on getting a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. Teaching, training, change management, and continuous improvement are all important to me. However, my students- whether they are teens or my peers- are MOST important to me. Ultimately, communication drives all of it.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northern Kentucky University and a Master of Social Work from Florida State University. I am a classroom teacher that has taught various grades at the elementary and middle school levels since 2003. For the past seven years, I have taught math and science. The intermediate elementary math focuses on word problems. Year after year, students enter my classroom struggling to read. I am at a lost as to why there are so many struggling. As a result of students' lack of reading fluency, of course, the students struggle with math. It has been particularly rewarding to dedicate more time working with lower-achieving students and see the difference that I am making. I figure being able to mentor more students like this individually and one on one would be an even more rewarding opportunity for both the students and myself. The difference may not be noticeable, at first, however I realize that this is a process and patience is important. I understand that not all students learn the same way. My experience has allotted me the opportunity to hone in on various learning styles. Therefore, it is my passion to engage in creative lesson planning to supplement the curriculum. Even though my recent emphasis has been on elementary math, I also have experience in teaching/tutoring elementary reading and writing. In addition, I feel it is important to have avenues to unwind and relax. In my free time, I like to travel, play strategic games on the iPad, and do arts and crafts. Furthermore, I read and listen to audiobooks of humorous fiction and nonfiction. I also like to watch comedic and dramatic movies and television series. I exercise by walking and I am going to challenge myself by taking up tennis and racquetball in the near future.

I am a graduate from Northern Kentucky University; I earned a Bachelor of Music in cello performance. My musically academic environment gave me the opportunity to privately teach cello to individuals from ages 8 to 65+, to teach violin/viola/cello to children ages 8-13 in a group orchestra environment, and even to facilitate coordination classes through music and dance to children ages 2-5 in a group setting! As a tutor, I have gotten to empower peers of my own in music theory and aural skills, while getting to enrich children's (K-12) understanding of mathematics. As a former high school student, an active musician, and a constant student of the world I encounter, I can tutor students in and help them gain self-sufficient facility with: English grammar, elementary-through-collegiate writing, literature, reading comprehension and efficiency (learning to read faster with greater understanding, etc.), mathematics from addition/subtraction to calculus, Earth systems and ecology, music theory/aural skills (aural skills=ear training), basic piano, elementary/intermediate/advanced cello, basic musicianship, and classical music appreciation.I teach with a philosophy of clarity through compassionate collaboration. I make a priority of learning about my students' individual learning styles, their unique challenges and strengths in their subjects, and about who they are and who they want to become through growth. It is not my job just to teach a subject: it is my job to teach a subject to the unique student in the way that they will understand and retain. Through compassion, I am able to quickly find my students' individual processes to clear understanding by collaborating with them. In my tutelage, it is important to me that my students feel respected and safe such that they understand that they do not lose potential (in the subject at hand or otherwise) by making mistakes. Further, my students use my guidance to bring their self-awareness and intuitive facility to their subjects as independently critical thinkers--my goal is to teach my students self-sufficiency in learning, thinking, and growing such that they are always bringing their best selves to the subjects at hand.

I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Education with a dual endorsement in Reading Specialist and Teaching English as a Second Language. I am a graduate of Northern Kentucky University where I graduated with honors. I received a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Math and Computer Science. I have much experience educating students. For the past 22 years, I educated my own children at home from kindergarten up through high school graduation. I also taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 to home school students in the Providence Extension Program. I taught several classes in the Greater Joy Home School Coop for 2 years. For the past 4 years I have taught English to Chinese students online. These were one-on-one lessons conducted virtually. My main areas of strength are in English and Math. In my experience teaching my own children at home, I taught them essential English Language Arts skills all the way up through high school. I also taught them Math up through high school level which included Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. In my experience in teaching Chinese students, we worked on vocabulary, speaking, reading, comprehension, spelling, and writing. One of my passions is helping a student learn and master skills and become someone who is a lifelong learner. When a student makes progress, it instills confidence in them that benefits them in other areas of life as well. Once they see the progress they are making, they are much more motivated to continue to learn because they see that learning is not as hard as they thought. I believe students can progress, given the right tools and methods and lots of encouragement and patience. In addition, students are all unique and have different learning styles. So a "one size fits all" approach is not effective in helping them reach their potential. A tutor or teacher should get to know students, understand their learning styles, and find out where they are in their learning. Then the tutor can make plans on how to help them reach their learning goals. In my free time, I enjoy reading and learning new things, as well as taking walks for exercise and enjoying the wonderful creation around me.
