My love for working in education began when I started volunteering as a tutor and mentor in high school. Throughout my life, I have fueled my passion for helping students succeed through a variety of careers, including serving as an AmeriCorps member for City Year, supervising elementary tutors and mentors, and am currently working as a high school guidance counselor. I have a BA degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University and a MA degree in School Counseling from Northern Kentucky University. I hope that as your tutor, I can show you ways to make learning relevant, fun, and interesting!

I am a teacher, certified in The Social Sciences and in Gifted Education, having received my training from Northern Kentucky University. I hold a BA in Social Studies, an MA in Gifted Education, and an additional 30 graduate hours in Special Education. Beyond that, however, I have been a 'teacher' my whole life. Every position I have ever held, from a 15 year-old stock boy, to a professional air traffic controller, to a corporate executive, I have wound up teaching/instructing/training. It is not just what I do, it is who and what I have always been. The most effective way to teach anything, in my opinion, is one-on-one face to face. A student's needs can be more easily determined and then satisfied, and response to learning stimuli is immediate and clear. Tutoring allows me to take a lifetime of interests and knowledge and use them, in a manner suitable for each student, to create learning. While able to tutor in many of the social sciences, I enjoy teaching in the history areas, especially American and Modern European. My major enjoyment, however, comes from the teaching of writing, in all areas, from essays to fiction in all forms. Because of the lack of expressive abilities I encountered when I began teaching, I have stressed it in all of my teaching situations. I have tutored in after-school programs, privately while in college, and to troubled students in local children's homes. I work in a personable, oral, style that connects ideas and thoughts to the standard details of a subject. Along with writing, I enjoy the outdoors. I camp, fish, and play golf as I can find time.
I earned a Master's Degree in Teaching at Northern Kentucky University and I am certified to teach Middle School Mathematics. I am currently employed in the Cincinnati Public School District as a para professional and math tutor for tenth graders. I am passionate about teaching math to all types of students. I try to demonstrate different ways to understand math concepts so that students find one that works for them. My life experience allows me to demonstrate how math is relevant and helpful in the real world. I have been happily married for over 34 years and successfully raised two college graduates who are both doing very well. I enjoy all types of sports, biking, walking, and learning new things.
With over five years of experience teaching High School US History, Government, World History, and AP Psychology, I specialize in making the social sciences both engaging and accessible. My approach centers on building authentic relationships and facilitating collaborative learning where students feel empowered to think critically and explore ideas together. I am passionate about guiding learners through complex concepts with a supportive, student-led style that builds lasting academic confidence.
I have invested over twenty years in youth as an Educational Consultant for elementary, junior high and high school students. I truly enjoy the learning process and this enthusiasm is evident to my students. I am motivated to assist and guide even the most tentative or discouraged student to find their niche as a productive, lifelong learner. While I tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about laying a great, educational foundation (K-8 academic subjects), Writing Skills and college entrance/transition preparation. In my spare time, I enjoy singing, games/sports of any sort, volunteering, and of course, reading and writing. I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies, a multidisciplinary degree.
I taught in public schools for three years (2014-2017). My first year I taught Algebra I at Belmont High School in Dayton, OH and I taught General Science for two years at South Dearborn Middle School in Aurora, IN. I also substituted off and on in Hamilton county, OH for nearly ten years, including a long-term assignment where I taught Algebra II and AP Calculus.I have a Bachelors degree from Northern Kentucky University where I majored in mathematics (with an emphasis on Probability & Statistics) and minored in the biological sciences. Ive provided statistical support for a professor of biological sciences and worked in traditional tutoring centers and 1:1 in-home and library tutoring providing support to students in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus and calculus. I'm certified in mathematics and science in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.I specialize in tutoring math topics from pre-algebra through calculus and statistics. I'm patient and easy-going, and I explain mathematical concepts well. I provide homework help and explain theorems and examples in a way that is easy to understand for the student. One of the greatest rewards in this endeavor is to see a concept "click" with the student, and hearing the student say, "Oh, I get it now!" In each lesson the student will practice several problems at his or her own pace as I guide him or her along and provide simple explanations in the event the student gets stuck on a problem.

I want to help students learn about the internet and explore the vast possibilities of the internet. As the head of my class, I not only excelled academically but also supported my peers in learning complex topics in computer networking. This role led me to become the head of my school's BPA Network Design team, where we achieved first place at the BPA regionals and state level in Ohio, and third place nationally. I studied computer networking and cybersecurity at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center, where I earned 25 certifications, including my CCNA and two CCST certifications one in computer networking and one in cybersecurity. I am currently pursuing a degree in cybersecurity.I focus on tutoring computer networking and cybersecurity, particularly preparing students for CCNA and other Cisco certifications. I enjoy teaching computer networking because it combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications. My teaching philosophy is to guide students to find their own answers while encouraging critical thinking, often through gamification to make learning fun.Outside of academics, I compete in cross country and track for Northern Kentucky University and enjoy playing hockey and video games. My goal is to inspire a love for technology in my students, equipping them with essential skills for a digital world and the workforce.
I received my Master's from Northern Kentucky University to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. I taught middle school English and Science as well as Speech and Drama. Teaching was my second career. I spent most of my early adulthood in management as a Learning and Development or Training Manager. I have my SHRM- SCP (Senior Certified Professional), my Six Sigma Green Belt, a Change Management for HR, and I am currently working on getting a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. Teaching, training, change management, and continuous improvement are all important to me. However, my students- whether they are teens or my peers- are MOST important to me. Ultimately, communication drives all of it.
Hi! I am a current assistant actuary and a former statistics professor at Ball State University where I taught upper-level probability and statistics courses, as well as introductory quantitative reasoning courses. Previously I taught introductory statistics courses at two different community colleges. I have a bachelor's degree in statistics and mathematics and a master's degree in statistics. I think that's all the formalities!
Teaching is my fourth career. I've learned my way through the first three by watching others and choosing how to adapt and apply their techniques to the specific purpose of my projects. In high school I was a STEM student before the term existed, but I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College with a major in Drama and a double minor in English and Art.Starting out on my career path in New York City, I took and taught theater crafts and began to develop prototype design skills while working in live theater, opera, dance, and television/video, and after contributing to Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and The Muppet Movie, relocated to London through the Jim Henson companies to work on feature films such as Dark Crystal, Dreamchild, Labyrinth, and Little Shop of Horrors. After a time, being at the intersection of a script and its visualization excited me the most and led me to emulate my colleagues who were into concept creation by beginning to research and write story treatments for Labyrinth.Returning to the States to raise a family, I applied what I'd learned about production to the corporate world. My experience and imagination yoked to a client's vision and purpose allowed me to take on a variety of roles: creative director, writer, producer, graphic designer, and occasional project management. As in the past, I often worked in the trenches, this time learning the software that supported and enhanced our efforts. But overall, my focus was to communicate, through language and visual representation, how a project could be realized. I knew that the plan might grow and change as it progressed, so had to be mindful that collaboration, communication, and flexibility were key to adapting to change as we moved toward the client's goal.Although I returned to college and earned a Master's in English and a Certificate in Creative Writing, my progress in the real world still relies on both words and pictures. The more we engage our senses, the deeper will be our ability to convey our intentions to those with whom we live, work, and play. Therefore, I wish to find out how you learn best so that together we may craft a plan for your progress, whatever your goal. Please share your expectations and concerns. Your goal may seem hazy at the start, but as learning is about observing, trying, and sometimes failing, your vision will come into focus. We can course correct as we move forward together to ensure a resolution, even if the destination changes somewhat. That's life, isn't it?
