I graduated from The University of Phoenix with a master's degree in Secondary Education. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Comparative Religious Studies. I was a high school teacher in World History and Government. I have adored history ever since my dad gave me a copy of "The Once and future King" by T.H. White when I was ten. In fact, I wrote my first college paper on Arthur and his knights of the round table. I l adore all the Social Studies' topics. I love teaching and getting to know my students' diverse needs and adapting the curriculum to them. I had to retire early from teaching in a brick-and-mortar school to homeschool my son, who has an immune deficiency disorder. This gave me an opportunity to gain experience teaching someone who was truly struggling. It also taught me to be very adaptive in my teaching. My son is currently a second-year student in college studying Biochemistry with a pre-med emphasis. He is my greatest success story. I genuinely believe that when students are struggling much of the time they are overwhelmed. This can be due to many factors. As a tutor my primary job is to discover what is overwhelming and keeping the student stuck. Then to unpack it and simplify it for the student. I use many scaffolding techniques to help my students out. Scaffolding is a technique in which a teacher takes a lesson apart in smaller chunks and reintroduces the information to the student. My research emphasis was planetary science, which allowed me to become very involved with the U.S.G.S. My planetary studies required me to not only focus on the physics of planets, but also on their geology. As such, I have a broad range of academic backgrounds, including astronomy, astrobiology, field geology, and geomorphology. I've even assisted in research at the Sudbury Impact Structure in Ontario, Canada and attended numerous scientific conferences.During my graduate studies I taught three different lab courses: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Life in the Universe. These were intended for non-physics-major students, so I have had extensive practice in bringing even the most advanced concepts down to a level that any student can understand. The lab courses were also relatively small (between 10 and 20 students). I focus less on memorization of formulas and more on the reasons why the numbers are used. I have a Master's degree in Elementary Education, and I have experience teaching second and fourth grades as well as teaching English to children and adults. In my free time, I enjoy reading, biking and watching movies.

During my undergraduate years, I tended to hang out with the math crowd, despite my status as a physics major. I joined math club at my university (NAU) and enjoyed subjects within math. Even today I will choose to read mathematics material over topics in science, which is a switch from my younger years. However, physics was the start of my passion for mathematics, and I hope share this sense of awe with you, or anyone I am teaching/assisting. I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to teach a calculus class, for two years, and every part of it has been rewarding. And for the past two consecutive summers the University of Arizona has given me the chance to connect with my science roots and conduct some cutting-edge optics research.

I was born in The Netherlands and have lived on the West Coast (CA and AZ) since the age of 7. I attended Northern Arizona University and obtained a BS in Sociology and a BA in French in 2013. My junior year of college, I had the amazing opportunity to study sociology in Montpellier, France. During college, I always stayed involved in with volunteer organizations and have worked with everything from building trails in the wild forests of Utah to befriending home-bound seniors get around easier. In life, I always try to surround myself with different people and environments.After working in a retirement home for a year, I decided to join Teach for America and began teaching in rural Eastern North Carolina. I had the pleasure of teaching second grade for two years. The students had skill levels and interests of all kinds, and I truly learned how to adapt and facilitate. Although we were an underfunded district in a low-income rural area, we created a classroom centered around exploration and diligence. By the end of the year, students were telling me things about the world that I didn't know!The best moment is when a student figures or learns something on their own because of the tools you have given them. That's what makes me excited about tutoring one-on-one in New York City.I enjoy tutoring elementary subjects because they can be done in very creative and engaging ways. Even math can be drawn, sung or painted. My sessions will strive to create real connections and interactions with the content.I can also tutor in French for all ages.Outside of tutoring, I am working on an educational app that would coach parents on how to help their students with academic vocabulary. I also enjoy music, art, biking, hiking, traveling and exploring coffee shops.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Arizona University. My content emphasis was in Language Arts. I am an Arizona certified Kindergarten-8th Grade teacher. I also have endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Structured English Immersion. Having taught preschool through first grade, I love working with young students on early reading and math skills. I have worked with students of all levels and learning styles: gifted, autistic, developmentally delayed, English language learners, speech impaired. I love learning and that is why I love tutoring and teaching! Learning can be so much fun with the right techniques and tools! In my spare time I love to read, work out, be outdoors, and spend time with family.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language from Northern Arizona University. I was a teacher for 13 years in the SUSD school district where I taught grades 2-4. During the summers I worked with talented youth by teaching a pre-algebra course to 4th graders at Arizona State University. Throughout my career I have taught an array of learners and have developed many skills to meet individual needs. Throughout my teaching career to now, I have coached volleyball. I have coached at a variety of levels and age groups ranging from 11yrs-18yrs. I have a great passion for helping students succeed and have the patience and creative skill-set to make that happen. In my free time I enjoy playing volleyball, riding my bicycle with friends, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
