About Me

I am a second year student in the Clinical Psychology doctorate program at Midwestern University in Downers Grove. While my specialty is Psychology, my other passions are writing and reading. I studied Creative Writing at New York University in addition to Psychology (with a Child/Adolescent Mental Health Studies focus) and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In my free time I love going to live music in Chicago and playing mandolin. I think my studies have given me a unique perspective on what makes tutoring effective. In addition to teaching the academics of the subject, I find it important to identify the obstacles to learning the child may be experiencing (such as anxiety, testing environment, interpersonal difficulties, learning styles) and focus on enhancing the child's strengths to build self-efficacy. I am also experienced in teaching relaxation techniques to help a child cope with the stresses of their academics. I easily build rapport with children and understand the importance of good communication between the parents and teachers in order to optimize the tutoring experience.
