My life's work has been and continues to be assisting students in building confidence while exploring the wonders of language and mathematics. Whether it be Algebra, ACT preparation, or English for non-native speakers, I have enjoyed my 20+ years working with students both in the U.S. and abroad (China & India). I have tutored students as young as Pre-K, but most of my experience lies with high school, university & adult students. For those seeking assistance with the ACT, I have several years of experience tutoring all subjects - content & strategies. With the changes in the ACT last year (science optional, shorter subject tests with differing times), I decided to take the new Enhanced ACT with hundreds of high school students to gain first-hand experience with how the alterations might affect test strategy and gauge any changes in content. My split focus affected the science score most (:D), but I look forward to sharing my newly gained insights with my students.

Reading comprehension and writing reinforce each other, and Robin tackles both by connecting what students read to how they express their own ideas on the page. Her experience teaching college essays, literature, and elementary through high school English means she adjusts naturally to each learner's level — whether that's paragraph structure for a younger student or thesis development for an older one.
Daniel's tutoring test for mastery is simple but effective: if a student can't explain a concept back as though they're the teacher, the work isn't done yet. That approach applies especially well to English grammar and syntax, where understanding *why* a comma splice breaks a sentence matters more than just memorizing the fix. His finance coursework keeps his own writing sharp — clear, concise, and structured around an argument.
I am a rising second-year Honors student at the University of Florida, majoring in Health Science on the pre-medicine track. Through competitive academic programs, tutoring, and leadership experiences, I have learned how to explain complex concepts in ways that are engaging and easy to understand. Throughout my childhood, I competed in various spelling bees, including the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where I developed a deep appreciation for language, word origins, and effective communication. Later, I discovered HOSA's Medical Spelling competition, which perfectly combined my love for orthography with my growing passion for science and healthcare. I spent countless hours studying Taber's Medical Dictionary and organizing medical terminology into detailed study systems, further strengthening both my academic discipline and interest in medicine. My tutoring experience began with helping younger students prepare for spelling competitions before expan
I am an educator of the sciences. I have taught Life Science, Biology, Physical and Earth Sciences for fourteen years in grades 7-12. I trained with the Keystone Science School of Denver, Colorado, the LSU Coastal Roots Program and have earned over six hundred hours in science literacy training in many areas. Science has a very strong mathematical component and that is why I also specialize in Math tutoring.
I am a dedicated tutor with a genuine passion for helping students to improve their grades and fall in love with learning. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and my greatest joy comes from helping them discover their own strength and confidence. I am here to provide a supportive, patient, and encouraging space for growth.
Teaching English composition and literature at the college level every day means Jennifer spots patterns in how students struggle with close reading, thesis construction, and evidence integration. Her theater background also gives her sessions an energy that keeps grammar drills and essay revisions from feeling like a grind — she's the rare English tutor who makes diagramming an argument genuinely engaging.
I'm an experienced educator and instructional leader with over a decade of experience in the humanities (English Language Arts + Social Studies), curriculum development, and school leadership. I believe in meeting students where they are, breaking challenging skills into manageable steps, and building confidence and independence. I'm passionate about helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers while discovering what they're truly capable of.
Reading a poem, dissecting an argument, crafting a thesis paragraph — English pulls together skills that look different on the surface but all require close attention to language. Solange, a Harvard graduate and avid reader and writer herself, teaches students to slow down with a text, identify what the author is actually doing, and translate that analysis into clear, structured writing of their own.
Between tutoring SAT Reading and Writing (she scored a 1580) and coaching students through college essays, Kate has spent years dissecting how strong written English actually works. She digs into thesis development, evidence integration, and revision strategies — the skills that turn a rough draft into a polished argument.
Most people don't expect a statistics PhD to teach English, but Sam's experience with college essays, literature, and essay editing gives him a practical toolkit for close reading and persuasive writing. He tackles thesis development and textual analysis by teaching students to build arguments the way a researcher builds a case — claim, evidence, reasoning, in that order.
Between crafting a Gilman Scholarship application, writing undergraduate research reports, and completing coursework across two very different majors, Ingrid has adapted her writing and reading skills to wildly different contexts. She teaches English by connecting reading comprehension strategies — like identifying an author's argument and tracking evidence — directly to stronger, more organized writing.
Tom's PhD in American Studies meant years of wrestling with dense literary and historical texts, then turning that analysis into precise, compelling academic prose. He teaches English by zeroing in on the specific skill a student is missing — whether that's grammar mechanics, integrating quotations, or structuring a comparative essay — rather than running through a generic checklist. Rated 4.9 by students.
Between his philosophy coursework, college essay coaching, and literature teaching, Justin brings a surprising depth to English for someone whose degrees are in math and physics. He's particularly strong at teaching students how to build an argument in an essay — structuring a thesis, selecting textual evidence, and revising for clarity — skills he honed writing extensively through his doctoral program at the University of Chicago.
Strong English skills come down to two things: reading critically and writing clearly. Elena, who earned a perfect SAT score and is currently at the University of Chicago Law School, approaches both through close textual analysis — teaching students to identify an author's argument, examine word choice, and then translate that analytical thinking into well-structured essays of their own.
Reading critically and writing clearly are skills Sung hones through a methodical approach: dissecting how an author builds an argument, then showing students how to mirror that structure in their own essays. His background in both literature and college essay coaching means he can move fluidly between analyzing a text's themes and helping a student craft a compelling written response. Rated 5.0 by students.
Between her psychology and linguistics degrees from UChicago, her work at literacy organization 826, and a perfect 1600 SAT, Sherry brings both analytical depth and practical teaching experience to English. She tackles everything from close reading and thesis development to grammar and syntax — connecting how language is structured to how students can wield it more effectively in their own writing.
Though math and science are his home base, Matthew's experience tutoring college essays and editing student writing gives him practical range in English. He approaches reading comprehension and written arguments analytically — teaching students to identify a passage's structure and build claims with evidence, skills that come naturally to someone trained in engineering problem-solving at Princeton.
Keith's Williams College education was steeped in close reading and analytical writing across political science, history, and English — the kind of interdisciplinary background that makes him especially effective at teaching students how to build a thesis, integrate textual evidence, and revise for clarity. Whether the task is dissecting a novel's themes or structuring a persuasive essay, he connects the reading and writing sides of English into a single skill set.
College essays, literary analysis, and close reading all require the same core skill: making a clear argument backed by specific evidence. James sharpened this through years of writing lab reports and analytical papers at Harvard, and he now applies that structured thinking to help students craft sharper thesis statements and more persuasive prose. His 4.9 rating speaks to how well that analytical approach translates.
