I am originally from New York City and am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science, Economics, and Psychology. Having gone through high school and the whole college process within recent memory, I am at the unique intersection of having a very current understanding of the challenges, and of having gained experience and perspective from college. I started tutoring as soon as I had real knowledge to share, which for me was in the eighth grade. In the way a six-year-old might feel an unwavering sense of duty and pride from being charged with returning scissors to the desk, I felt the true significance of the job I had been given. Tutoring has never lost this importance for me and I continue to approach each student with the same level of preparation and commitment as I did all those years ago. As both a nationally-ranked swimmer and a student I learned meticulous organization and time management. I'm from Westchester County, New York. I'm a rising sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis. I attended Blind Brook High School. I am planning on double majoring in either philosophy or anthropology, with a second major in computer science. I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am always proud to say that I did not know how to speak English until I was 16 years of age. Learning a language is like cracking a secret code. Once you decode it, the treasure is yours.
I am Martina Zandonella, I am Italian and I have lived in the USA since 2013. Before moving here I have studied in top British Universities and worked in private and public schools the UK. With a Post Graduate Degree in Secondary Education, Languages, I have acquired the pedagogical knowledge of teaching, on top of my prior experience in schools. I am passionate about languages because they open may doors in the worlds and allow better communication, essential in every field. I particularly enjoy teaching Italian, my mother tongue, and Spanish. I tailor-make the lessons to better fit my students and I use variety of techniques including visual, auditory and kinesthetic (movement). I believe each students need to find their most successful learning methods, they need to learn by doing and they should have fun in order to achieve the best results.

Some details about me: I have just recently graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and am currently waiting to start my Ph.D. program in Physics; I would like to become a professor one day in potentially any subject; and meeting new people is one of my favorite things to do! In college, I worked part-time as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, mastering facilitation, leadership, and social skills to help with the development of study habits and time management for students taking a course on Differential Equations & Laplace Transforms in which I was the only SI Leader for that course and had to help over 650 students. During the 2016-2017 academic year, I was also a Community Adviser, developing a community of about 50 residents, facilitating discussions of appreciating and understanding human differences and diversity, overseeing residents grow in leadership roles, leading an academic initiative program, and undertaking administrative tasks in a residential community. I am passionate about learning, the arts, traveling, telling stories, and sharing experiences. I have a B.A. in Drama and Italian from Vassar College, where I graduated with general and departmental honors. As a Drama major, I focused on directing and dabbled in writing, performing, and costuming as well. As an Italian major, I spent a semester studying at the University of Bologna, completed a translation for my thesis, and worked as a drill instructor for first-year students. After graduating I was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Catania, Sicily, where I spent a year teaching high school students English language, culture, literature, and theatre. In my spare time, I acted in an Italian version of As You Like It, did a weekly guest spot on a radio station, tutored privately, and started an after school theatre program culminating in an end-of-year performance in English.

I am completing my Ph.D. in Biblical Exegesis in the Department of History at York University (Toronto, Canada). My academic credentials include a MA in History from York University. I have a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Hebrew and Jewish Studies and a BA in Classics from Tor Vergata University in Rome. In 2009-10, I worked on an MA in Philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University and completed about half of that program when I decided that I wanted to pursue a degree in Biblical Studies and, to that end, enter into a Ph.D. program. I have extensive linguistic and theoretical expertise in the exegesis of biblical texts, in particular prophetic texts. I studied Biblical Hebrew for many years, Akkadian for two years, at the University of Toronto (Canada), and Aramaic. I also have a solid academic background in the history of ancient Israel and the Ancient Near East, combined with an extensive teaching record on the history of the world's religions and Greek and Jewish Literature. Among the learning objectives of my classes are the following: Providing students with an understanding of the key subjects and issues in history or religion. Analyze and discuss significant historical and religious subjects and issues as they relate to the modern world. Students usually come from a wide variety of social backgrounds and have a range of knowledge and skillsets, depending on their prior academic experience. To provide context and discussing particular subjects, I structure tasks in my course to meet students' different growth areas without assuming too much about their knowledge level. To scaffold assignments is an effective way to bring students up to speed who may need assistance acquiring background information and familiarize themselves with methods.
