As a student, I always excelled in standardized testing and developed a number of strategies that I enjoy sharing with students studying for the SAT, ACT, and GRE. My favorite subjects to tutor are Spanish, writing, history, and math for all levels. I love helping students see their own potential for success and discover their strengths. Through patience and hard work, they can improve in areas they don't feel as comfortable and eventually gain the confidence to take any test with ease and certainty. I am lucky to help students grow and flourish in many subjects and I enjoy working both with students who just need a little extra practice to students who are struggling in classes. Practice makes perfect and I utilize a mix of explaining difficult concepts and working through practice problems to help my students understand the material deeply and feel prepared and confident in class or during a test.

I, Faith Otieno received my Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Southern University in May 2012. I am currently pursuing a masters program in Business Administration at Texas Southern University. During my graduate school year, I held several positions as a tutor, teacher assistant, and mentor to students. I enjoy tutoring business courses especially accounting, finance and economics. My experience as a tutor has enabled me to assist students in understanding difficult concepts, and this has normally resulted in a positive feedback. I have a passion to assist people in achieving academic goals and objectives. I do believe that knowledge is a powerful asset, and it can be attained through excellence in academics! Moreover, I can also tutor mathematics and English subjects. My teaching philosophy is to explain the difficult concept, and illustrate using an example for the student. Moreover, I do urge students to develop a study timetable that would enable them to review class materials in advance of the class time.My interests outside of academia include engaging in outdoor activities (rock climbing, kayaking) , going to the movies (comedy/action/thriller), visiting scenery attractions, travelling to new places, following a few television series, and reading inspirational books.

I am a rising Senior currently studying neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania. Science and particularly the inner workings of the brain have been a passion of mine from a very young age, where I remember candidly telling my mother that I would be a neurosurgeon one day.I have been tutoring ever since high school, where I tutored many of my peers in algebra, calculus and French. At the University of Pennsylvania, I have had the privilege of working for our Tutoring Center, which offers private student tutors to fellow peers struggling in a particular subject. In particular, I have spent my time at Penn tutoring Calculus and Physics, two of my favorite pre-med subjects. Tutoring has always been a passion of mine in that I can directly help my student succeed and achieve their academic, personal and professional goals. I always relate tutoring to my dream of becoming a physician, where we place ourselves in a position to help someone else with knowledge that we have acquired. As a tutor, you can always expect me to be happy, passionate and focused on your success. My goal as a tutor is to make sure that you understand the material down to its very basics, and that you get enough practice to ensure that no test question will ever leave you puzzled. Everyone that I have ever tutored has walked out more passionate about the subject, even if it was one they initially hated. They have always had better grades than when they started, and I have been lucky enough to help many of my tutees gain entrance into their dream schools, like UCLA.I must admit that I do not only live studying for MCATs and tutoring, and enjoy cooking when I find the time. I am also an avid Juventus soccer fan, and will try to watch soccer whenever I have the time.

I graduated from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon with a Ph.D. in System Science/Mathematics. My written and oral comprehensive exams were in Statistics, Probability, Analysis and System Science. I also have a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math with Honors with a Minor in Computer Science. I have also passed the SOA exam on probability, and am currently studying for the next one on financial mathematics. Outside of academia, I enjoy science fiction, MMA, video games and documentaries. In tutoring math students, I have learned the importance of encouraging students to assume a very active responsibility for their own learning. My approach to learning facilitates their success in making sound strategic choices, reflect on their learning processes, collaborate with their peers, and fully participate in the dynamic learning experience. It is also important to me that they know what we are learning, why we are learning it, and how it applies to the world beyond the classroom. My favorite subjects to tutor are Discrete Mathematics, Algebra, Statistics and Calculus. I am generally available for tutoring year-round Monday through Saturday, from 10 AM - 6 PM Central, but I am flexible if necessary.

I grew up without any video games or gaming systems, which is a rare thing in today's world. Instead, I focused on my studies and in May 2015 I graduated Suma Cum Laude from my high school, and achieved my four year goal of receiving the IB diploma. I am a sophomore at the University of South Florida and am majoring in Integrative Animal Biology with, hopefully, a minor in anthropology.

I am a graduate of East Carolina University, where I earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a Concentration in Statistics. I have tutored many subjects, including Biology, English, and accounting, but the bulk of my experience over the last six years has been tutoring middle school through college level mathematics and statistics. I have spent the last two years working on an M.S. degree in Statistics at The Ohio State University. At OSU I have taught undergraduate students through the leading of recitations, tutoring students in the statistics tutoring lab, as well as teaching a lecture section to over 200 students. In my many years of working with students in math and statistics, what I have learned is that everyone can be successful if they have the right teacher. Not everyone learns the same way, so it is important for a tutor to be able to explain the same concept in several different ways in order to find the method that works best for the student.I truly love helping others learn and grow. My favorite subjects are Statistics (of any level), Algebra I and II, Calculus I, Pre-Algebra, and Pre-Calculus, but I enjoy any opportunity to work with a student. Nothing is more satisfying than having a student who I've worked with tell me that they feel confident in their abilities. I hope to have the opportunity to help you gain confidence and subject mastery as well.
