Science Tutoring review by John in West Chicago, IL
We started by looking over the most recent material from Unit 7. We talked about saturated/unsaturated/supersaturated solutions and how to determine which is which. We also looked at solubility curves for different substances. Remember, the line represents saturation and anything below is unsaturated and anything above is supersaturated. Dissolving a compound in solution is a type of chemical reaction and is therefore either endothermic or exothermic. Solids dissolving are often endothermic, while acids, bases, and gases are typically exothermic. The heat of solution tells us whether a reaction will be endo or exo thermic. In Unit 3 we examined the different types of solids and their bonds. Take time to understand the properties of each type of solid and bond. We can identify the different species being bonded, so we must be able to determine the type of bonds present in any species. Great work tonight and we will pick up with Unit 3 again on Wednesday.
