William Butler Yeats said that, "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." I couldn't agree more. My job as a teacher is, and will always be, to inspire curiosity and a hunger to explore the world through critical examination!

Since a young age, I have always been passionate about sharing what I have learned with others. I have experience in teaching and tutoring in social work field education to Master's level students. The subjects range from social work ethics, LMSW test prep, case management, social justice policy and psychology 101. All subjects are my favorite to teach. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Louisville with my Master's of Science in Social Work with a Specialization in Military Social Work. In college, I showed an interest in these particular subjects, since I knew that I would be applying what I have learned in my future career as a social worker. While in college, I have learned that everyone has their own way of learning and processing knowledge. I work with all four different types of learning styles: visual, auditory, kinetic, and reading/writing. I make learning fun and interesting by giving examples of how to apply what is learned to real life. Cramming or rushing to learn a subject is not always wise. You will feel motivated to learn when you have someone who will work with you at your own pace, I am great at doing that! Outside of academia, I love to read, travel when I can, and most importantly spending time with my loved ones and pets.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill majoring in Psychology with a minor in Education! I'm super passionate about working with students cause I know how difficult school can be and I want to make the learning process easier. One thing I've personally learned through my own education journey is that when you have the right people to guide you, it can make learning engaging & enjoyable.I tutor English, Psychology, social sciences, math (Elementary and middle school math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra), reading (Elementary and middle school reading), reading comprehension, writing, essay editing, and public speaking. As someone who has a strong foundation in these subjects both through my own education and prior tutoring experience, I'm confident that I will be able to help you in any of these subjects!I have the most experience tutoring elementary school students (ages 5-10) and I have tutored this age group for 3 years. I have also worked with high school students in an English class as a student aid my senior year of high school. In my free time, I dance, play soccer with my brother, listen to music, spend time in nature (hike, swim, bike, etc.), cook with my friends and family, and write.Thank you for reading my personal statement. I had doubled majored in anthropology and Chinese during my undergraduate at the University of Utah. I am currently earning a Masters in International Studies with a certificate in Public Diplomacy at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. From my experiences, I believe in engaging and personal experiences in education to help students in reaching individual goals.I first gained a love of teaching languages teaching refugees English. I refined my passion in sharing knowledge from my experiences in doing anthropological research and hands-on experimental archaeological field school during my undergraduate years. During my time as a museum professional in Thanksgiving Point, my skills in facilitating formal and informal education developed further to adapt my teaching to all age groups and learning styles.I tailor lesson plans that work with the student's prior understanding of the material. In creating more of a collaborative environment I like to have students try different ways to see and solve a problem that they themselves can use effectively in the future. My goal is to help students be able to integrate the knowledge into their personal understanding to have more independent use of it in the future. Also, in violin I had been concert mistress and section leader in my high school orchestra. I have also studied violin privately under Rosalie Macmillan for about 3 to 4 years. Additionally I have attended music festivals and gained a music letter as I graduated high school. I can tutor up to upper intermediate violin.

I am a graduate of The University of Florida where I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively, to Brazil, Argentina, Greece, Turkey, and more. Last year, I served with City Year: a not-for-profit organization aimed at lowering the high school dropout rate through interventions to improve academics, behavior, and attendance. I worked in an English classroom teaching high school freshmen while tutoring Algebra and Geometry everyday after school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, Algebra, and History. I am a firm proponent of equal education opportunity for all as it is absolutely necessary for anyone to succeed. I try to encourage my students to have an appreciation for their education as it is a privilege they have and millions of others do not. I want to inspire them to try their best in all of their academics and to help them feel confident about school. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, singing, playing soccer, and watching live theater.

I am a graduate of St. John's University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, minored in English. I also received my Masters of Arts in Experimental Psychology. Since graduating I taught pre-schoolers as well as elementary school children. My teaching experience has taught me how to simplify difficult subject matter to make it easily understood. I also learned that everyone has their technique to learning, it is just a matter of finding the best one for you. Within the last year, my career has shifted to law and I became a Paralegal. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about psychology. The field of psychology is always changing and constantly making us question how and why we behave the way we do.I believe that learning is a process which cannot be rush, each student has their unique learning style and should take it slow and steady to win the race. I enjoy traveling, yoga, and trying new food.

I am passionate about higher education, and I hope to dedicate my career to assisting college and college-bound students with their scholarly pursuits. My academic experience is diverse and growing: I received my B.A. in Art History and Psychology from St. Mary's College of Maryland, and I begin my Masters in Library and Information Science program this summer through the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a Senior Library Technician at Miami University, I worked closely with students, helping them fine-tune their research methods and to navigate complex computer programs. I enjoy breaking down daunting tasks and intimidating concepts to simpler steps, and discussing the underlying logic of this problem-solving process. In this manner, I work with students to develop strong writing skills, and helping them confidently approach the Verbal and Essay components of the GRE. I also have a pedagogic predilection for GRE vocabulary, playing with mnemonics and even encouraging doodling to remember the tougher words.Beyond my academic and tutoring interests, I am a freelance illustrator with a lifelong passion for illustration, comics, and the graphic novel. I am also passionate about travel, hiking, and really good coffee.
