My career includes 15 years as a Biologist, working for pharmaceutical companies, non-profits, and the U.S. military. I have also owned and operated a Biotechnology consulting firm for 8 years. For the past 10 + years, I have been teaching middle and high school science, technology, and engineering. I've taught in the United States, Ecuador, and Mexico. I love all things Math & Science and also enjoy offering Test Prep for SAT or Praxis/CSET. I especially like being able to make difficult information easy for students to learn. My passion for Biology started at William & Mary when I was earning my Biology BS. My teaching career started as a life science teacher in middle school, moving on to High School where I have been for the past 12 years. During that time I earned a Masters degree in Special Education. I have taught AP Biology, IB Biology HL/SL, IB Environmental Science, AP Environmental Science. In high school I played basketball and lacrosse, and enjoy any type of sport.

I have been teaching and tutoring, in some form another, for many years; whether it be work with the Boy Scouts as a youth leader, tutoring academically, or teaching airline pilots as I do today I've always found it tremendously fulfilling. That is why I wish to continue this life long endeavor by tutoring through Varsity Tutors and help others to achieve, and exceed, their academic goals as well.I'm a retired USAF pilot currently employed as an instructor pilot for the Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company. I've been instructing, both military and civilian, for over 30 years and enjoy it immensely. I've had the opportunity to work with people of many cultures and travel extensively; I've been to every continent multiple times, even Antarctica. I have two masters degrees, an MA in Information Management as well as an MS in Aeronautical Science and Aviation Safety. My undergrad degree is a BA in zoology. I'm currently awaiting acceptance to Clemson for an MS in Biology Instruction and am doing a math review leading to a certificate in Math Theory from Indiana. I was a high school math and physics teacher for 9 years, so I have a wealth of experience helping struggling students learn a variety of subjects. I taught classes like Algebra Support, Algebra 1, Integrated Chemistry-Physics, AP Physics and everything in between.In addition to a physics degree, I also majored in Middle/Secondary Education, so I have experience working with STEM students in grades 5- 12. My philosophy is to meet students where they are with the content and help them understand how to tackle difficult concepts and break down misconceptions. I do this with a warm, inviting, and understanding approach, so students don't "feel dumb", but instead feel proud of the hard work we do together. I received my undergraduate degree in Physics from Amherst College, and later a masters degree in Science and Math Education from UC Berkeley. While I've always had an interest in science, I've come to see myself as someone who teaches *people* rather than *science*. That is, I really enjoy helping students become more confident & independent learners, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. I feel honored to be a part of any students' growth. :)
