I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelors of Science in Food and NutritionScience from Florida State University. I was a certified tutor at the Academic Centerfor Excellence for a multitude of college level subjects including: chemistry, organicchemistry, biochemistry, biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, nutrition,Spanish, statistics, and proof-reading essays. I have tutored one-on-one and ingroups. I especially love to tutor the chemistry classes aforementioned because ofthe useful study skills I developed from them. In high school, I won a few awards asa member of the speech/debate team. I have many tips and tricks to help studentswith difficulty in public speaking. Education is absolutely crucial for becomingsuccessful and feeling accomplished both physically and mentally. There should beno barriers to impede one's educational pursuit. My tutoring style is adaptable andrelies on how the student learns. I ask a few questions to engage the student'scritical thinking skills so that they can solve the problems independently. I haveperformed well on the new MCAT and have been accepted to Florida StateUniversity College of Medicine and University of Cincinnati Medical School. I willbegin medical school Fall of 2016. This is my first time with standardized test-prep,so I will help students with successful studying strategies, how to find freeresources, and plenty of exam practice with high yield topics.

I am a current dental student at Oregon Health and Science University. I graduated cum laude from the University of Oregon with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. I have a lot of experience tutoring biology, biochemistry, anatomy, and physiology at the college level as well as working with students of all ages with math, science, and English. I love creating an interactive learning environment where the student and I work together towards solving problems rather than just lecturing. I feel the best way to learn something is to do it, and I hope that we can work together towards understanding rather than memorization. Whatever the topic, I hope to be a resource that you can utilize to truly excel.

I am a senior undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill expecting to graduate in May with a B.S. in Mathematics and minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience. I have been teaching for the past 7 years in both public and private settings. Throughout high school I worked at Kumon, where I taught students who were at risk of getting behind in their schoolwork and those that wanted to get ahead of their peers. During this time I also worked with numerous students with ACT/SAT prep and placement exams in more private environments. In my time at UNC, I volunteered with AVID at a local middle school where I led sessions for groups of students in an effort to close the achievement gap and emphasize college readiness to those who may not reach their full potential without guidance. I have also worked with the Math department at UNC, conducting research and tutoring students in high-level mathematics courses. My approachability and ability to explain abstract concepts in simpler, more practical terms allow me to connect with my students and help them achieve whatever their goals may be.

Metaphor of TeachingTeaching is like riding a bike. The roads upon which I ride my bike have many hills and valleys to deal with but they are never too tall or too deep to overcome. Students and I will have good and bad days, but no problem will be so great that we cannot overcome. The wind can be a friend by pushing me from behind to make the journey easy or it can be an enemy by pushing against me to hold me back. The distance is the same but the effort is much greater when there is a head wind. Students will receive an education, but for some it will not come as easily as it will for others. I, as a teacher, will try to make the education the student receives feel like a tailwind. My bike is a tool that enables me to cover great distances over the duration of the day. Sometimes my bike runs smoothly if the chain is well lubricated and the wheels spin true. Sometimes my bike is sluggish when the chain is dry or dirty and the wheels are out of round. The students and I will have to work with the resources we are given. I will make their education the best it can be with those resources. Many days the students will be riding uphill against a headwind and many days the students will be riding downhill with a tailwind. The students will realize that not all days will be difficult and not all days will be easy. The goal of my bike rides is never the destination but rather the journey itself. Perseverance to overcome the weather, the terrain and condition of the road, and the condition of my bike is what is gratifying. I, as a teacher, must persevere above the resources I have been given, the differences among the individuals, and my own capabilities to give the students the education they deserve. Students will understand that receiving an education is a journey that will never end.

During Medical School I was an excellent student and I volunteered at The Red Cross Association where I learned about first aid, prevented care, and of course health. From this I developed a deep interest in the community work which I did with much effort, perseverance, and dedication.I graduated with excellent grades and started immediately working as a general practitioner in public hospitals in Colombia. In addition, I gave lectures and conferences on how to promote and prevent diseases in our community. I realized that I had the ability and willingness needed to teach, explain, and disseminate information that I learned in Anatomy, Biology, Physiology, Pathology through my college days and career.I am currently taking the USMLE exams in order to do my residency in Internal Medicine. I have worked as a medical assistant as well as volunteered in different hospitals in New York and New Jersey. I consider myself a very honest, prepared, motivated, and patient person and I am willing to share the knowledge acquired to help those who really need it.My tutorial style is best on a one on one basis. I emphasize my points with visual aids whenever possible. I am bilingual and I can explain in English or Spanish. I am constantly reviewing and studying journals and textbooks so that I am current with my teaching materials.

I firmly believe that there isn't anything you cannot learn! I have tutored at many levels including elementary and high school. I was also a Teacher's Assistant at the college level. I have worked with many students including special needs children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and some emotionally disturbed children. I have experience in the medical microbiology lab at the Hawaii Department of Health and a virology research lab at University of Hawaii at Manoa. I love Microbiology and Spanish! I have been studying Spanish language and linguistics for the past ten years, and combined with my Hispanic background I have been able to successfully complete a competitive interpreter training course at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I love teaching and I have a sunny disposition, I hope you will be my next client!

Learning anything can be difficult, especially when one is not interested and fails to make a genuine effort. The first step is to find the beauty in knowledge. I have gone through this transition and can relate to someone who has difficulty learning weather it originates from lack of interest or inability to understand concepts using conventional methods. I, as a visual and conceptual learner, find myself able to study and learn more effectively if I manipulate what I am learning to fit my preferences and I can help and I am willing to help one learn how to do this.I am a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas and I will be graduating in Spring 2016. I have completed my B.S. degree in Biology and am currently working on a B.S. degree in Neuroscience. I will enter either pharmacy school at UT or medical school after I graduate. I have been tutoring since high school, starting out in mathematics. In college I tutored in mathematics, biology, chemistry and even standardized tests such as the PCAT and MCAT. I also have work experience in revising and writing questions for these tests. Lastly, I am a TA for anatomy and physiology at my university and this has been my favorite teaching experience. My favorite subjects to tutor are math (anything from geometry and SAT math to calculus) and science- particularly biology and chemistry. I love subjects such as anatomy, neuroscience and organic chemistry, which make you form images in your mind and learn using spatial skills. I find that this is one of my strengths and it does not stop at the books. I also play sports such as soccer and football. The skill definitely helped me as a goalkeeper for high school team.I like to enjoy the good-weather-days by swimming, playing football and futball, golfing and taking walks in the park. During down times I like to play darts, build things, do some microscopy or read books on neurology and evolution. I also am a big fan of video games and can entertain myself for weeks after getting a new game. I also love music as I have been playing the tuba and the snare since middle school. I especially like to play on my drum set whenever I come home for a few days. I have always loved being an athlete and I exercise regularly (my favorite workout is none other than the deadlift!) I enjoy nature and love going camping, taking hikes and boating. I am also an animal enthusiast, as my childhood dream was to become a zoologist and a marine biologist; I still hope to fight for conservation in Africa and South America after I am seasoned in my profession. My long term goal is to contribute to the effort to find causes/cures for many neuro-degenerative diseases as well as neural/psychotic disorders and in the field of neuroscience in general as it purely fascinates me.

I received my B.S. in Biology/Pre-Health with a minor in English in 2013 from Spring Hill College - a small, Jesuit college in Mobile, Alabama. During my sophomore, junior, and senior years at Spring Hill, I worked part time as an appointment tutor helping students in a variety of subjects including general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and anatomy and physiology. I am now a first year medical student at Saint Louis University. My teaching style centers around the student mastering basic principles and then learning to combine and apply those basic principles to answer questions that, at first glance, appear far more complex than they actually are. This is particularly useful in timed testing situations such as the MCAT and ACT, when the chances of remembering a specific example of a complicated problem are slim. I know from experience the skills and concepts necessary to be successful in both the classroom and on the day of big tests like the MCAT and look forward to helping students do the same.

I have tutored extensively throughout high school. I was a private tutor to students ages 7-14 in math, reading, writing, and science. I helped found a mentorship organization that tutored elementary-aged children in reading, writing, and math in preparation for the New York State exams. I have tutored high school students in math, as well. Students that I have tutored have seen astounding progress in their work and grades have jumped more than 20 points. I attend Cornell University, where I am majoring in Biology, minoring in Business, and on the Pre-med track. I also attended a competitive specialized high school located in New York, NY. I graduated with honors and recognition in Biology Research & with special recognition by the Guidance Department. I have also been dancing for the last seven years and am versed in modern, hip-hop, contemporary, kathak, and Bhangra. I have also been a professional photographer for the last 4 years. I am involved in several organizations at Cornell and hold leadership positions in several. I have conducted original research through the American Museum of Natural History, and upon graduating from Cornell, I hope to enter the Healthcare Management/Consulting field or go to medical school.

I am a graduate of the University of Virginia where I received a BA in History. While in college, I spent time tutoring local elementary school children in math and reading. Additionally, I worked for the university helping student athletes craft and edit papers for history and political science courses. After graduation, I completed a two year post-baccalaureate program in the pre-medical sciences (Bio, Orgo, Gen Chem, Physics). During this program, I continued tutoring students in subjects as diverse as writing, biology, and physics. I also started privately tutoring for the verbal section of the SAT at this time. I love trying to make challenging material more interesting and comprehensible. Any subject can be understood if the material is presented in a manner that a student finds relatable. After my first year of medical school, I spent the summer working as a Gross Anatomy teacher for PA and PT students. This was hands down my favorite job and I became very invested in my students success, often staying far later than required to ensure my students were confident with the material. In addition to teaching, I act as a motivational coach for my students. I am their biggest supporter and will do my very best to help them achieve success. In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, lifting weights, reading books and magazine articles, and watching movies.
