I am a current Masters Candidate at Columbia University, Teachers College in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have been tutoring math, English, test prep, and foreign languages for over ten years.I graduated with honors from Barnard College with a degree in Political Economy. During college, I also studied Spanish literature, Hindi, and Urdu, and received the prestigious Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for Urdu study in Lucknow, India. During that time, I taught SAT critical reading and writing at East Harlem Tutorial, raising average scores by over 200 points for her students. I was then hired by the Spanish government to teach English language through content classes in trilingual Catalan focused elementary and high schools. While in Spain, I also developed and taught curriculum for private children and adult classes. I then became head soft-skills trainer and curriculum developer for Anudip Foundation in Calcutta, a non-government organization aimed at teaching technology and language skills to rural Bengalis. I have been tutoring pre-numeracy through Algebra in New York for the last year, while studying communication sciences and disorder.I believe is giving students the tools to find answers to problems independently, and making the underlying logic of the problem clear. Watching students gain understanding of new concepts and break down barriers in the academic careers is the true joy I find in teaching.

While at Brown I worked as a member of the Brown Writing Fellows, a group of selected and trained students who show and aptitude in writing, editing, and the teaching of the two, and No Small Parts, an educational group that led performance and theatre workshops at schools in Providence, Rhode Island.As far as my high school education/scores go, I graduated from Saddle River Day School (a small private high school in Bergen County, NJ) in 2008 as salutatorian and as a member of the Cum Laude National Honors Society. I was also the recipient of the Bradford Cooke Sommer Humanitarian Scholarship (2007) as well as the University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Scholarship (2007). In regards to more specific subjects, I was an AP Scholar with Distinction having taken U.S. History, Calculus AB, Biology, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, and English Literature.I received a cumulative score of 2250 on my SATs (Reading 750, Math 700, Writing 800, Essay 12).

I believe the qualities of a great teacher include accountability, creativity, and exceptional management skills. Students' views of education are shaped by their early experiences in school. A teacher is one of the first people to develop a child's passion for knowledge. Students enjoy the learning experience when they feel their academic curiosity and well being are nurtured. It is important for a teacher to model how all aspects of life is a learning experience. I believe it is important for students to understand that learning is a lifelong journey and their perspective of learning can instill a passion for learning.

Each of us is so very unique, with a specific way in which we learn and take in information. We must ask questions in order to find out where a student is coming from and how they view their own challenges, so that we can truly impart information that will help that specific student become a better learner. My job is to not only help the student overcome specific content hurdles, but to also help them become a better learner overall. That is my global view on our responsibility as educators. Right after graduation, I immediately started working in Miami-Dade County Public School in a low income community, which I loved. Over the years, I worked in various schools and grades ranging from K- 5. My journey as a teacher has been an amazing experience especially working with students who are struggling academically and sometimes feeling hopeless. Helping those kids to believe in themselves has brought me so much joy. My passion is to help students improve their reading, comprehension and math skills, so they can improve the quality of life, self-esteem and overall trajectory of their life.
