I am a good tutor and teacher because I am patient, encouraging, and have good communication and classroom management skills. I do not get frustrated if my students do not understand something right away; instead, I look for an alternative way to explain whatever is confusing to my students.

When I was in eighth grade, I told my French teacher that I was thinking of changing to studying Latin the next year, and she said that was a good idea because my spelling (of both French and English) was horrible. She was not alone in this assessment; in elementary school my percentage in the "Spel...

I am a graduate of Shawnee High School and am a current freshman at the University of the Sciences. I'm majoring in Neuroscience on the premedical track with a minor in Biochemistry. I have been tutoring for 4 years in English, math, science, and Latin. I am able to tutor any course in those subject areas from grades 6-12. I am a huge believer in differential learning and believe every student learns a different way. I will strive hard to discover a learning style that will ensure continuing success and development in and out of the classroom. I'm completely invested in seeing each student I tutor grow and become successful students and will not settle for any less. I have also been a choreographer for 5 years and a swim teacher for 1 year, both jobs of which I work with children in 3rd-12th grade. In other words, I believe I truly understand the vast majority of learning styles. In addition, I have also worked with special needs kids extensively and would be ecstatic to continue working with them.

Being a university student myself, I know more than others about the occasional tough classes that every student comes by. The classes I have signed up to tutor in are classes that I have taken both the Advanced Placement classes as well as the college version as well, so I know a thing or two about what you should really know. I'll make sure you receive tutoring that is effective and tutoring that is efficient!

If there is one thing I can say about myself, it is that I am passionate about knowledge - both acquiring it and imparting it. I have served extensively as a teacher and tutor in the classroom, in one-on-one or small group settings, and even abroad. I went to a private liberal arts school for my undergraduate degree, where I learned the value of a well-rounded, dynamic educational approach which I bring to all of my studies and teaching. I have taught and researched in a range of areas but for the last three years, my particular focus has been on Classics, Archaeology and Foreign Languages at the University of Texas at Austin as a graduate student. Reading and language acquisition are two of my strongest assets, primarily working in English, Greek and Latin, but also with reading fluency in four additional languages. I have traveled extensively in Europe, as an archaeologist and for my own curiosity, and I am enthusiastic about the influence of culture of learning, expression, and history. I have always had a knack for mathematics and was originally on track to be a chemist, both of which have served me well in my pursuits as an archaeologist and my work on various National Science Foundation grants. I have taught in educational settings up to and including the undergraduate level, and I look forward to finding just the right approach with each individual student because one size does not always fit all.

I am a rising sophomore in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. I am majoring in security studies thinking about working in counterterrorism. As far as tutoring style, I think it is really important not to give the student the answers but to ask them questions and help them come up with strategies to get to the answer for themselves; the goal is to make myself unnecessary in a way. My strengths (in school and tutoring) are in foreign languages including Latin and humanitiesexpect a very enthusiastic tutor especially if we are talking about Shakespeare! I also think it is important to try and frame things in a context students are used to, so if that means watching She's the Man in order to understand Twelfth Night, then that's what we will do (although we do have to read the actual play as well). If that sounds like something you could use, get in touch!

I started tutoring professionally in 2002 while I was in college. In 2004, I tutored English, French, Latin, and constitutional government for Baylor University's Student-Athlete Services and stayed there the first two years of law school. I love working with foreign languages. I speak English natively, French fluently, and Spanish and Arabic proficiently. I also can read and write Arabic.

I am a Lecturer at Trinity University and St. Philips College, and former lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Classics at UTSA, where I have had the privilege of working with students from a wide variety backgrounds, many from right here in San Antonio. I believe in helping students develop the best possible version of themselves by building studying and learning strategies based on their own skills rather than trying to fit themselves into a cookie cutter approach. I am really excited about the opportunity to work with students one on one. When I'm not in my classroom or writing research, you can find me volunteering in the childcare center at Haven for Hope or trying to learn Bikram Yoga. I am excited to be joining Varsity Tutors, and look forward to helping you learn what you wish to learn so that you can accomplish what you wish to accomplish.

Currently a rising sophomore at Middlebury College. I have four years of experience working in science education at a science museum, and have tutored students in Latin all throughout high school. I will be a peer writing tutor at Middlebury in the fall. I have a passion for the humanities (especially writing) and languages, and I hope to share that with my students. Despite struggling with math and science throughout middle and high school, I declared my major in neuroscience because of how fascinated and challenged I was by the subject. I wish to inspire more students to appreciate the challenges that can arise when learning something new, and finding ways to self-motivate themselves to achieve their academic goals. Additionally, I am minoring in religion and art history, since I love learning about world cultures and the development of societies over time. I am looking forward to working with you!

I have tutored many of the young children I've cared for over the years, whether helping them learn to read, or editing their first papers. I've helped high-school students write college papers and tutored them in Latin. Meanwhile, I continually edit my friend's creative writing endeavors.Though I majored in English in college, I was also involved in the Classics and American Studies departments. I even took a Latin course at Oxford while studying abroad. Though I've never tutored anyone in History, its one of my passions. Whether Ancient, European, or US History, I'm always happy to help anyone with their history courses. I also minored in Theater, and adore teaching people to speak confidently in public or in the work place.I strive to teach my students to be able to teach themselves. I was raised in a home that fostered academic excellence and I hope to do the same for my students. While I push my pupils to do their best, I am endlessly patient and caring, continually finding new ways to teach a student. Being an unconventional learner, I am the first to turn to unconventional methods to help a student nail down a concept. I love watching children and adolescents grown and change and adore helping them to highlight their strong points while honing their weaknesses. My father was a high school English Teacher and encouraged me to evaluate my teachers from a young age. This gave me a natural talent for teaching, which I've developed further and continue to develop.
