I graduated Boston College, and I am loved the experience! I tutored extensively throughout high school, and so far I have continued this trend in college. Over my four years in high school, I tutored about 10 different students in areas such as English, Spanish (I am a native speaker), math, history, test prep, and even music performance. Now in college, I have 5 students, and I tutor them in math, reading, writing, grammar, proofreading, and in the development of useful skills such as time management, organization, staying focused and on task, and more.I find tutoring to be an extremely rewarding experience, both for the student and the tutor. Although it seems like the student is the only one learning, the tutor learns a great deal, as well. For instance, with each student I take on, I gain valuable experience that I can then use with another student. In addition, I love being able to assist a student in reaching their goals, be that a higher grade in a class, a deeper understanding of a specific topic, etc.I am a native speaker of Spanish- it was actually my first language! My entire family comes from (and still lives) in Galicia, the northwest province of Spain. Although I am fortunate enough to be bilingual, I still love tutoring others in the hopes that they will come to love the language just as much as I do.I took all the AP and Honors courses I could in high school, and although I placed out of my freshman English classes in college, I decided to take an extra English literature course out of my passion for the subject. I have worked towards having and using excellent grammar since a young age, and I find editing and proofreading to be a calming, enjoyable task.I began studying the violin when I was 6 years old, and it was only a few short years later that I decided to pursue it seriously. Since then, I have formed part of countless county and state-wide orchestras, as well as several symphonies on the national and international level. I have been lucky enough to perform in halls such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, United Palace, and more locations throughout the U.S. as well as Europe. I tutored music all throughout high school, and I am excited to continue doing so in college! If you happen to be interested in any of the areas I tutor in, please don't hesitate to contact me! I look forward to working with you!

I have taught in high schools and universities in the Midwest and Northeast for nearly a decade and a half. Whether as a Latin teacher, Humanities professor, or Historian, I strive to connect my students to the past. I never thought history was relevant until one day in college, I stepped onto the Basilica Aemilia in Rome and was - like in some movie - stunned to physically feel that I was putting MY foot somewhere Julius Caesar had once put HIS foot. It wasn't just possible - it was a fact. I have never recovered! It is this sort of a-ha moment that I hope my students find. I approach each student question as having multiple ways to get to the answer and, as a former college math major, I also try to get at cultural and linguistic problems from unexpected angles, like through the scientific method or pythagorean theorem. I reject the idea that some people can only do math and science while others only excel in English or History. I try to help students find strengths in one aspect of their lives to lead them to strengths and confidences in other, more unexpected subjects.

Currently a rising sophomore at Middlebury College. I have four years of experience working in science education at a science museum, and have tutored students in Latin all throughout high school. I will be a peer writing tutor at Middlebury in the fall. I have a passion for the humanities (especially writing) and languages, and I hope to share that with my students. Despite struggling with math and science throughout middle and high school, I declared my major in neuroscience because of how fascinated and challenged I was by the subject. I wish to inspire more students to appreciate the challenges that can arise when learning something new, and finding ways to self-motivate themselves to achieve their academic goals. Additionally, I am minoring in religion and art history, since I love learning about world cultures and the development of societies over time. I am looking forward to working with you!

For almost ten years now I've been teaching students of all ages, from across the globe, about everything from Ancient Rome to particle physics. Driven by a passion for discovery, and a desire to pass that love of learning on to others, I first began working with students as a Museum Educator at a local history museum, making the world of nineteenth century America come alive for visitors. In high school, I worked as a teaching assistant in a number of science and world history courses, providing support for both honors and remedial students to give them the tools they needed to succeed. As an undergraduate, I continued to pursue my passion for education, volunteering to teach local high school students in my free time and also serving as an undergraduate tutor for my residential college, where I provided assistance with everything from GRE prep to essay-writing.In May 2020 I graduated magna cum laude from UC Berkeley, having earned degrees in both History and Classics. I spent much of my senior year traveling around Europe and the United States, conducting research at archaeological sites such as Pompeii, Ostia, and Nimes, and working in archives at Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford in preparation for the completion of senior theses on cultural change in the Roman empire and on undergraduate Latin pedagogy, respectively. During my undergraduate years, I also worked as a research assistant in a number of different laboratories, studying ancient ceramics, medieval manuscripts, and Roman iconography, and spent a summer excavating the villa of the Roman emperor Hadrian with Columbia University.I intend to eventually pursue a PhD in Ancient History, but until then I look forward to tutoring with Varsity!

I don't believe that there is such a thing as a bad student. I am very aware of the existence of bad teachers. These teachers often end up teaching English or Foreign Languages. The thing that often differentiates a good from a bad teacher is the ability to empathize. Bad teachers will have little patience for the student who is struggling to learn the things that the teacher has had years to internalize. A good teacher on the other hand should never forget what it was like to look at the material back when it made no sense. They should further be able to remember how they came to understand it, and be able to communicate this to the student. If the student still does not understand, a great teacher will find a way to communicate it in a way that the student will.I became a language teacher, not because I have any prodigious talent for learning foreign languages, but because of the satisfaction that I have found in seeing my students come to a realization when they had previously had no hope. I have designed my own curricula around empowering my students, and liberating them from the need for pedantic gate-keepers.It would be my pleasure to work for you and assist you in reaching your goals!
