The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is a standardized test that is used as part of the admissions process into numerous private schools. The ISEE is broken down into a lower level, a middle level, and an upper level. The lower level is offered to students who are entering into grades five and six. The middle level is given to students who are entering into grades seven and eight. Finally, the upper level is available to students who are entering grades nine through twelve.
The ISEE takes approximately three hours to complete and consists of five different sections. These include verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, math achievement, and an essay.
The verbal reasoning section includes sentence completion and synonyms. Quantitative reasoning covers data analysis, probability, geometry, algebraic concepts, and numbers and operations. The reading comprehension section emphasizes supporting ideas, figurative language, organization and logic, vocabulary, and style. The math achievement section involves geometry, data analysis and probability, measurement, algebraic concepts, and whole numbers. Finally, the essay section requires students to write an essay.
