History Tutoring review by Aidan in Orem, UT
Today, the student and I worked on all portions of the test in order to identify any remaining weaknesses she has. She is doing exceptionally well on the math section and nearly as well on the English section; there are one or two points of grammar that we need to address, but other than that, she is definitely ready for those tests. Reading and Science are a little more challenging for her. We will work on strategies for minimizing the minor mistakes to which she's prone.

History Tutoring review by Devon in Orem, UT
Today we covered the ACT English, focusing on grammar and punctuation. The student has picked up quickly on the rules and answers with great accuracy. We also covered more vocabulary, which he quickly retained, and then moved on to ACT Science. We did have to discuss using the reasoning skills versus prior knowledge in the science section. The student has been assigned a writing prompt, and we discussed the ACT writing section. We will discuss his writing next week after he has completed the prompt by Sunday morning.

History Tutoring review by Christian in Orem, UT
The student and I began our session by speaking extensively about her specific interests in schools and programs so that we could find the best way to speak about how her essay might garner interest and confidence from an admissions counselor. Her essay speaks to a unique accomplishment, but her interests in the sciences aren't yet present in the writing. In addition to finding ways to shift the focus in upcoming revisions, we also worked hard to find ideas that will help her become more specific in her writing, more passionate in her narrative voice, and more confident in her ability to share this essay with school to make it feel, in her words, like a "reach" rather than a reality.

History Tutoring review by Tracey in Orem, UT
The students are back in school. I am hitting multiplications skills hard with Student 1 again because he hasn't practiced them in a while, and he sees the importance with his new unit, which will cover multiples and factors. Student 2 and I took important vocabulary words from the first unit and wrote down the definitions with examples (and nonexamples) in the back of his notebook.

History Tutoring review by Cassandra in Orem, UT
We used picture clues to recognize initial sounds in words, matched upper- and lowercase letters, used scissors correctly to cut more alphabet flashcards to use for practice at home, and played a sight word recognition match game. She continues to struggle with reading sight words. We're working on mastering 10 at this time. She has a good attitude for the most part. The student is working on making her own alphabet flashcards, a sight word game with cards, and an alphabet chart to review letter recognition and pictures used to recognize initial sounds. She has her own ring of her first 10 basic sight words. She also has a ring of upper and lowercase letters to recognize out of order. We sang an alphabet song to review letter recognition and letter sounds. She keeps the ring of letters and the ring of sight words to practice reading them at home. She is recognizing more letters and sounds.

We went over the math problems gave the student to practice in the last session. She is at her goal for the Math, but we are going to push past. She did well today. I gave her a science section to practice for the next time.
