English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Megan in Lockport, IL
The student read 6 level E books today! She is becoming more and more fluent at this level as I start to introduce level F books. We also went over words with a "meanie" E on the end, homophones, and writing sentences.

The student read a Level One book. She worked on reading comprehension: prediction, summary, critical thinking, and other questions pertaining to details in the story. We studied words with the common ending of tion, such as lotion, potion, etc. We read through her sight words, captured 8 new sight words, and played a game with the sight words. We revisited the rule of words ending in e (magic e) and read practice words. We reviewed the two-vowel rule (two friends go walking), such as ea, ai, oa and two-consonant sounds, such as th, sh, ch, wh, and ng. Finally, I introduced the g rule.

The student read a short non fiction article. He answered 6 short answer response questions. He is getting better at answering in complete sentences and checking to make sure they make sense. In math we continued to go over multiplication facts of 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s. He then worked on mixed word problems. He has homework to complete 5 word problems.

The student read a timed fluency passage. She read the passage faster than the day before. Yeah! We reviewed /dr/ words by reading passages with those words in them. We did a fluency activity as we did the day before. I encourage her to read for 20 minutes each day from her Judy Moody book.

The student read aloud an article from a news magazine. We then discussed the content, and the grammar and vocabulary. We continued to review "should," "must," and "probably," using the past perfect. She is making fantastic progress, and she says that she is feeling quite comfortable now at work speaking English.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Celeste in Lockport, IL
The student read aloud. We covered syllable segmentation, a spelling pretest, hand spelling practice, an adjective review, and sentence read aloud phrasing practice. We did a word fluency drill on comparative adjectives, identifying parts of speech, pronoun review, and passage fluency. He wrote a short text that correctly utilized all 5 words. He is going to decide if he would like to add another session or change the focus of part of our current sessions. He wants the opportunity to read more difficult texts more often, and also continue making progress with the literacy curriculum. I will attempt to contact his high school to find out what texts he will be reading this upcoming school year, so that we might be able to read some of them.
