English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Carmen in Cranston, RI
I met with the student and his family for 3rd grade reading. His progress is very obvious; he is reading very fluently and stopping at the end of the sentences. His vocabulary is also growing, and he recognizes the new words when we come across them again. At the moment we will review the meaning of the word and the way it's being used in the sentence that we are reading.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Sophie Paulette in Cranston, RI
Today the student and I looked over her essay for English class. All in all it was well put together, although some paragraphs had to be shifted around for more logical sense. There were some typos and citation issues. The conclusion needed a little bit more meat to it. But the paper was informative and coherent. We reviewed MLA citation to make sure it was correct. Then we looked over her extended essay, and she'd added more information and case studies from sources we'd researched in previous sessions. We did a little bit more researching today, successfully, and she is getting closer to her word limit. She is happy with her work and enthusiastic about doing more.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Arielle in Cranston, RI
Today the student started by completing part of her summer reading project. She finished Where the Red Fern Grows and we picked a passage and she wrote why it was important to the story and to her. We then continued the session by reading and summarizing Give Me Liberty. She is doing a great job comprehending the text and using decoding skills to learn new words.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Alex in Cranston, RI
Today the student and I met for the first time to work on his English/ Language Arts summer homework. We discussed the book he is reading for class, Red Scarf Girl, a memoir about the Cultural Revolution. We wrote and revised a summary of the early chapters, and then I had him write a paragraph about something that interested him (in this case, the video game Call of Duty). He seems to understand what he reads fairly well, but struggles with expressing it through writing. I began to take him through ways to improve his writing, including how to use transitions and how to determine what details are necessary to include. I enjoyed his energy and look forward to working with him in the coming weeks. He will attempt to finish the book so we can start on his essay next week; he will also interview his parents and family members for the second ELA project due when school begins again.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Emily in Cranston, RI
The student was much more easy-going about her work this session, and as she had read her material beforehand we got much more done. Discussion was good as always, and the grammar workbook page we did was a page on shortening rambling sentences which as I say is something we're working on right now. She struggled with it a bit, but we worked through it together until she had a better feel for how to proofread rambling sentences into shorter, more concise ones.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Megan in Cranston, RI
We read a story and talked about using pictures to answer questions from the story. We also completed an activity from a second grade reading workbook. The student also practiced his sight words. He was cooperative.
