Certified Tutor

I'm currently pursuing my BA in Political Science. I offer tutoring in English, Social Studies (History/Psych), and in ACT/AP/SAT test prep. In high school I excelled in English, history, and social studies and I credit my professors and teachers with my success. Learning what individual students need to stay engaged is my first step to introducing a subject. Not everyone enjoys these subjects as much as I do and that can make it hard to commit to improvement. Building good communication and trust with students is very important to tutoring relationships and maximizing comprehension. In lessons, I build in time for practice and rehearsal for immediate feedback and more success in independent studying. The structure of my lesson plans will always be built around the individual needs of a student.
In high school I tutored English for adult language learners and in elementary school math. In less formal settings, I have tutored American history and government and ACT test prep. I was also a peer educator for reproductive health and health policy for 2 years. While my focus is now on social studies, these experiences have taught me to adapt to diverse needs across a wide age (6-22 yrs old) and subject range.
